Folks, let me just say something. Doing intense cardio = loss of muscle. And what is boxing training? Right, intense cardio. So adding 10-20 pounds of lean, solid muscle while partaking in serious boxing training is extremely difficult if not impossible. Maintaining muscle with intense cardio can be less difficult to accomplish but adding muscle while doing so is just an unreasonable goal. Go 3 weeks in the boxing gym without lifting weights and you'll quickly drop pounds and lose muscle. Believe that.

If a heavyweight wants to get in great shape but the last thing he wants to do is lose strength and muscle, how the hell can he do that? Yea, you guessed it.
Actually it's called consuming more calories then you burn. If you don't want to lose muscle then you eat your ass off, clean food that is. If your trying to move up a class, then you lift weights while eating clean. It sounds like your overestimating the amount of cardio and calories lost by doing roadwork, sparring and other bag work. I never lost any muscle during my boxing training, nor did anyone else that I was working out with daily. I did however lose fat, and my bodyfat percentage dropped to 6-7%. You want to know how I maintained the muscle mass? That's right! you guess it! eating clean food.
