Every round was close but Montiel did not win enough rounds. This after I put a bet on Montiel.

When I heard the name of one judge, Raul Caiz Sr., I knew something won't be right with the decision and I was right.

I don't don't wanna stretch this arguement or start a flame here, though in the match afterwards, Rey Bautista knocked out the Mexican. So you got a close decision by a Mexican and a Mexican KOed in round 3. You decide which got the better exchange.

Montiel didn't win the fight, it was a gift decision..

i scored it 116-112 for Gorres, 114-112 after the 2-pts. deduction vs. Gorres

a few of my notes of the fight.

rd1: Gorres presses the action, Montiel looks confident and content on feeling out his challenger. 10-9 Gorres.

rd.2: Montiel looks very tentative, Gorres is outjabbing him. 10-9 Gorres.

rd.3: Gorres keeps the pressure, showing good lateral movement, but he was stunned by Montiel's accurate counters. 10-9 good round for Montiel.

rd.4: Gorres more selective with his shots now, showing better defense, Montiel throws lesser punches. Gorres 10-9.

rd.5: pace slows down as Montiel continues his counterpunching mode, Gorres potshots him with good jabs, moving well. Gorres 10-9.

rd.6: it's getting to be a technical chess match, Montiel waiting for Gorres to open up.. Gorres boxing & moving, repeatedly tags the champ with jabs, Montiel slips on a wild swing. 10-9 Gorres.

rd.7: Gorres still boxing, his jabs are setting up his combos now, Montiel looks tight and tentative..slips again..10-9 good round for Gorres.

rd.8: Montiel still on his denfensive shell, looking to time a KO punch. Gorres showing good footwork & defense though...they explode in a counterpunching duel, Gorres slips..good action, very close round. 10-9 Gorres.

rd.9: a duplicate of the previous round. Montiel looking to land a 1-punch KO shot, he's getting potshot with jabs, his left eye's swollen, but he counters well..very close round. 10-9 Gorres.

rd.10: Gorres presses the action now, jabbing and throwing combinations...Montiel tags him with a right straight, left hook body shot counter. Gorres is hurt and reeling, he clinches to Montiel and they both crash to the canvass. the ref issues a 1-pt deduction on Gorres..Montiel now keeps up the pressure, Gorres survives this round. dominating round for Montiel 10-8.

rd.11: Montiel pressing the attack now, Gorres moving, tries to keep his distance with his jabs...he's recovered and tags Montiel with some good counters...they explode again! good exchange, very close round. 10-9 Montiel.

rd.12: Montiel continues the pressure, Gorres boxing and counterpunching...they explode again and Gorres is hurt with Montiel's stronger punches, he clinches for survival...another 1-pt. deduction from the referee...they go toe-to-toe, it's total war! ref separates them, wow! entertaining round. 10-9 Montiel.

If anything, this shows that our country can be trusted. No hometown decision in our favor but there is in favor of the visitor. Cong**** to montiel and better luck next time Z.
