Good article, but I think that a little verbal jarring outside the ring doesn't always reflect on a fighters amount of class or lack thereof. I think Shannon Briggs is an outspoken fighter and his rhetoric is done in such a way where it's not hurtful or meant to be a personal attack on another fighter. He called Brock, "brocoli"; I mean how hurtful or classless could that be?

In contrast, fighters like Riccardo Mayorga, talk trash in such a way that their rhetoric is often personal attacks and meant to disrespect an opponents character. I think this type of 'trash talk' is cleary class-less and ultimately comes back to harm the talker.
Briggs said something to the effect of "IM GONNA STAB YOUR ****ING EYE OUT" to Sergei sometime before their fight.

And Im not saying Manny doesnt represent the sport well.
Hes a warrior and a class act, and is fun to watch.
That being said, he has messed up too many times out of the ring to be the focus of an article like this in my opinion.

De La Hoya, Mosley, Barrera are good examples. I used Manny since he may well be the most exciting fighter out there. As for his outside stuff, politics and promtional issues don't make him any less of a good guy. As long as he is not getting arrested and/or beating on women, I stand by my choice of Pac-Man as someone who is a good representative of boxing, but my point is that his popularity and excitement played into this as well. Mosley would have been my second choice. I also like Hopkins and Oscar. I'm also old school and that plays into a bias. Still, Toney and Briggs make me sick when they do their thing, though I do believe Briggs is a good guy at heart. I love Toney as a fighter and despise him as a trash talker. Hopefully, tthat makes some sense. All good points taken, however.

Barrera let Juarez get under his skin but he is a great sportsman as is Winky. Aslo, the Russians are particularly decent about trash talking and Oleg has been embraced by American fans for his humility and decency. Vitali has a tad of the "talk" in him, but Wlad is a true sportsman.
