Wouldn't surprise me if that fatalities don't decrease, and eventually you see guys fighting at the Mandalay Bay with pillows covering their fists.

I think the weight has went up slightly, and the gloves overall are going to be bigger in size. Therefore making punches less effective, especially power shots.

We still have those chants, but its better then using bigger gloves, which make the boxer less effective and at the same time more exhuasted.

Exactly. You would think they would also use bigger gloves for the heavyweights.

I think would also should happen is maybe a second refferee who is sitting ringside gets too refferee and call it when a fighter is taking too much punishment. I mean we've seen Duran v. Moore, that fight just went too long and Torres at ringside was screeming for the refferee to stop the fight which he finally did. And same can be said that the Vargas-Trinidad or Leonard-Hearns fight went a little too long, they took some vicious shots and there corner people didn't stop the fight and neither did the refferee till later. But then again, boxing is a sport where the underdog gets a chance to come back from defeat and stopping the fights too early may not allow this, but i would think its better then bigger gloves. I think it was Foreman who used to say that if you can ko a fighter just ko him, don't play with him, cause he taking more damage by you pot shotting him. I belive Foreman said somthing like this in more then one Roy Jones Jr. fights. The bigger gloves will cause a fighter to bring on more damage to a fighter, because he will have more resistance, but at the same time he will be taking more shots.

Whats ridiculous about this new rules change is that it comes at the heals of the NSAC sanctioning MMA fights which use gloves are feather light and are only there to keep the fighters from breaking there hands (as it often happend in the earlier bareknuckle fights).

Those guys should be fighting with the 8-10 oz gloves as well. Those little things only pad the knuckles so you don't cut your hands on the other guy's teeth. What are they anyway? 4 or 6 oz?

They are 4oz gloves if I remember correctly. Also yeah they are only there to keep a fighter from breaking his hand like I said earlier.

I also wonder if it's not just Nevada trying to **** over boxing as their judges have done so well in the past. Perhaps Nevada sees MMA as the "new trend" and thinks it will overtake boxing in terms of revenue for the State. And bigger gloves on boxers mean less knockouts and less exciting fights, and the casual fan will just watch MMA to see some poor bastard get his teeth knocked down his throat instead.


Just a possibility, Nevada doesn't exactly have a tradition of upstanding behavior. And you have to weigh all possible angles.

I'm not sure if its a huge conspiracy thing but Nevada has seen the revenue potential of MMA. Especially due to its PPV sales and the demographic it caters to.
