Why is everyone lying in this thread? I think race has a lot do with who the majority of boxing fans route for...

Of course Brits will most likely root for their fighters and the americans will do the same but if you're limited to just that then you're not a boxing fan.

Yes, it matters to me to a certain extent. Yes, I prefer American fighters. But race is more important then nationlity to me. I'll cheer a British BLACK boxer over an American White boxer. Unless if the British Black fighter dislikes Americans then **** him, I'll go with the AMerican White guy under those circumstances. [/I]

I'm actually still considering who to back in the Calzaghe vs Manfredo fight. I always liked Calzaghe but lately hes came over a bit arrogant and I've always liked Manfredo since the first contender episode I was supporting him.

Nope. All I care about is determination and character with a fighter when INSIDE the ring. Which is a big reason why I like the following:
Mosley
Winky
Hatton
Castillo
Corrales
Jonathon Banks (he's one to watch for sure)
Pac Man

etc.

My favourite current fighter is Ricky Hatton. This has more to do with him being a Manchester City fan than it does to do with him being British or even English. Other fighers that I like right now are Cotto, Pac Man, and Sam Peter.

I like Cotto for his ability and style, Pacquiao is an exciting fighter to watch and always puts everything into it and there's something likeable about Sam Peter telling HBO that James Toney is a nice guy when asked if he's mad about all the name calling!

It doesnt bother me at all. Although if Wlad was lets say, a white American, he would be one of the most popular athletes in America.

Why would a different nationality make a boring boxer any more exciting?

Manny Pacquiao is one of the biggest draws in boxing and has been for several years. The American fans don't even care that he can hardly speak English. It's what you you in the ring that counts the most. Don King can stage all the publicity stunts he wants, but that fact is the fans are buying tickets to see an exciting fight.

maybe you misunderstand. i believe what boxingguy1226 is saying is that wladimir klitschko would basically be a household name with tyson-like fame if he were an american and not ukrainian.
