In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, trainer Teddy Atlas gave his views on the situation involving Vitali Klitschko possibly coming out retirement, and receiving an immediate title shot at WBC champion Oleg Maskaev. I agree with Teddy in full.
I've thought it was unfair and absurd for Vitali to jump in front of Peter.

That means we'd see Vitali v.s. Maskaev and then Peter v.s. Maskaev right?
No way in hell Oleg beats Vitali and the new WBC champ situation wont guarantee a title shot for Peter who deserved it before Vitali did.

Maskaev, as the champion, and by the WBC rules has one full year to meet the mandatory in Peter.
In the meantime, if Maskaev loses in one of his voluntary defenses or not is not something you have to account for ahead of time. What is the WBC supposed to do, demand that Maskaev win, becuase he has other obligations to fullfill?
LOL
Maskaev has til August to face Peter, his mandatory, assuming he still has the title. If he don't and he gets beaten before August, then that resets the mandatory and the start of the year for the new champion.
I thought this was common knowledge, but I guess apparently its not known by all people.Last edited by BigShot; 01-30-2007, 09:51 PM.Comment
