boy was i right about ppl mentioning tyson out of his PRIME why cant u guys stick to the thread title.who said ne thing about his record being great? or were we talkin about championship years? and to me losing 6 times in 20years isnt all that bad.but in his championship years he was almost perfect, hardly lost rounds and koed most ppl. well if thats the case well mayweather wont be remembered as a great champion neither because look who hes fighting out of prime fighters or bums and he's boring.at least tyson fought more then 2 times a year. so when mayweather time is up i will say he wasnt great cause of that criteria

i dont care if you dont rate pbf great that was a ****** comment you just spat your dummy out

tyson looked perfect in his prime because his opponents were never on his level, basically your saying people who talk about his losses to holyfield dont matter because he was past his prime]

        thats bull****

it was tyson's fault he lost to holy both times he never under-trained he wasnt looking past holy he just werent good enough

tyson disgraced the sport more than once and he ducked and dodged fighters, yeah in the 80's he was a scary guy but he was built up to be something hes not, why is it people use rahman;s win over lennox but the second you lose douglas's over tyson people start crying like lil kids

face it tyson was a good fighter for about 3 years but he ws never great

he isnt in the same league as lewis, frazier, ali, holmes, holyfield when it comes to greatness

In fairness Tyson lacked heart from the very beginning. If he didn't destroy his opponent within three or four rounds he lacked conviction and started to doubt himself, and this is before the championship years as well as after. The trouble with judging Mike as a great champion is that he never had to test his heart during his tenure. He never came off a loss and avenged it in the same way Lewis did, he never had to dig deep and whenever he did have to dig deep he failed.

People question Marciano's greatness because of lack of competition and rightly so. Did we see Marciano pushed to the edge? Maybe not. But he was the best heavyweight out there for his entire career, while Mike was not.

I find it strange that his KO loss to Buster Douglas is not admissable as evidence contrary to Tyson's claim to being great (according to some). His Championship years stretch from his 1986 win over Berbick to his 1997 loss to Holyfield during which he won the title twice, but also lost to Douglas. He was never the same fighter after he lost to Douglas and this is really what I think bars him from greatness.

ok going undefeated in lopsided matches for 3 years isnt great? ahaha. ali wasnt neither then in his prime although his fights were lopsided and he was undefeated also. and once again u keep going off topic, until u hold a topic about the thread and instead of an out of prime tyson i cant take u serious.

cause he koed the ****ers.ahahaha. unless u wanted him to get his ass kicked to show he was a great champion. and your last paragraph ok. at least u talk about his prime somewhat with douglas unlike alot of ppl on here. although he got his ass kicked he still dropped him and fought with 1 eye taking combos with full leverage

especially when hes popular from his 3 years of champion. he sells out arenas cause of that, on fox, cnn, msnbc because of those 3 years. still known to millions behind ali because of those 3 years. alot of ppl watch him still to see if those 3 years come back, when ever he threw good combos out of his prime the crowd would roar cause they remember that in 86'. now his whole career wasnt great but it was good i admit that

Tyson had heart, he had a warriors spirit and luved a good fight! Unfortunatly he lost his passion for the sport and his fighting spirit sumwhere along the line! Look at his fights before jail man, Bruno 1 for example, he got hurt from a big left hook on the button, what did he do? He threw a Wild hook straight back! He kept fighting, never doubting he would win and he got the TKO! Tucker - fighting superbly, Jabbing well and possibly even stunned Mike a little early with a right uppercut, Tyson didnt wilt he kept fighting every minute of the 12rounds earning himself a comftable Decision! Ruddock - A huge puncher, landed many flush power shots on Mike but guess what Mike kept coming and got a TKO and a Decision! **** even taking the beating of his life against Buster Douglas he pressed, and actually scored a big KD! He was Knocked out against Buster that night but instinctivly tryed to get up, The man HAD heart please dont doubt that!

Yeah,Tyson was a great champion. He dominated for a relatively short period of time compared to other HW greats. But it was impressive!Kind of a "live fast, die hard" champion.
