barrera and morales both deserve to be in the top 10 list in my opinion, and although i think barrera should be ranked higher than morales, i think morales should be at least one place below him. the thing that perhaps makes fight fans go with morales being better than barrera is the fact that in my opinion morales is the more exciting fighter to watch, HOWEVER, i think barrera is the better boxer and the smarter boxer out of the 2 fighters.

they are both 3 weight world champions at 122lbs, 126lbs and 130lbs, both fighters have got great resumes of fighters they have beaten and have challenged everybody out their, barreras list of opponents he has beaten is just as impressive as morales, but the thing that seperates these 2 fighters in my opinion, is their trilogy, the 3 fights they had. had morales won the trilogy i would have to hold my hands up and say he is the better mexican fighter, but he lost that trilogy and although barrera lost to people that morales beat, barrera still has the opportunity to defeat pacquiao and still has a lot more going for him as a fighter and can still go on to try to better morales resume of fighters if he were to beat marquez and pacquiao, if he were to do that then i dont think anyone could complain if barrera is higher on the list than morales. barrera started out his career as a flyweight so he has been fighting guys bigger than him his whole career basically and he could probably perhaps still amke 122lbs if he wanted, i remember reading an interview and he was saying he went up in weight because thats where the big fights were. barrera could eve still try an fight at 135lbs an try to become a 4th weight world champion. barreras career aitn going downhill, unfortunatley morales is, but that doesnt take away the fact that he is a great fighter, a legend and a hall of fame fighter.

If you are going to include active fighters in a list of Mexican greats (as this list does), then Morales should be in it and you can argue that he should be ranked right above Barrera based on accomplishments. But the Ring had a list last year of top 20 mexicans all time and did not include avtive fighters, because there might still be things that they could accomplish which would change their rankings on an all time list.

Barrera at 33 years of age, (keep in mind he's been fighting pro since he was 16)....is about to defend the WBC title against Juan Manuel Marquez, after I remind you...beating an impressive Olympian in Juarez.

It's really a no brainer that Barrera still has a chance to further his career, and whether you like it or not....Morales has stayed too long and might continue to do so. The overall list of opposition they've beaten throughout their careers is comparable....but what gives Barrera the edge has been pointed out.
His win over P4P lower weight king Hamed, head to head matchups and Rocky.

That's because he IS the Morales conqueror.
Let's not even bring up the age thing. Everyone knows Morales is done, the man gave everything he had and has been in just about as many ring wars as anyone throughout history.

Did you really just put Rocky Juarez up there as to a reason why Barrera is better than Morales? I give you some solid, solid reasoning of Erik being one of the greatest ever at a certain weight and you come back with Rocky Juarez? Pfft....Juarez has done nothing to assert himself on the level of the fighters that Morales took on at 130. If Erik Morales didn't give EVERY ounce of what was left of his career battling Manny Pacquiao...and he in turn fought the Mzonke Fanas and Robbie Peden's of the world then this wouldn't be a discussion.

So his win over Hamed alone would boost him up higher than Morales eh? Morales' win over Manny Pacquiao is as good or better than the win over Hamed. Pacquiao has proven to be a hall of fame type of fighter and is universally ranked at #1, #2, or #3 in everyones p4p lists. There goes that one...

Barrera is NOT the Morales conqueror. Three close, split fights with controversial decisions wouldn't mete out fighter A being the "conqueror" of fighter B. In many peoples minds, Erik won the second fight hands down. However in some peoples minds, Barrera may have edged the first fight, lost the second, etc. Those bouts were all razor thin.

In the end it really comes down to Erik pushing his career as hard as he could and Barrera taking the easy road at points later in his career. It also comes down to Erik being the very best (although Barrera was a great 122'er as well) in his natural weight class. If Barrera would have manned up and went after Pacquiao immediately then he may not even be on the map at this point.

I need to be brought up to speed as to what Rocky Juarez has done exactly.

I know he's a solid fighter. I have seen him fight about 5-6 times now. I saw him demolish a shot Guty Espadas, I saw him in that hideous fight against Zahir Raheem (I chalk that up as a win for Raheem due to the ref), I saw him get slapped by a good fighter in Soto, and I saw him in the Barrera fights. He's a strong, come forward fighter with a good beard and solid power. The David Tua of lower divisions if you will.

What has this guy ever done to make him special though?

Put fighters that want to fight with Rocky and not take a back step and he does this to them.

If Mayweather can get a title shot for winning a bronze, then Rocky can get a title shot by winning a siliver medal in the Olympics - really should have been the gold he got and many people aggree. I would actually say which is true, that Rocky fought the tougher better fighters then Mayweather on there way to a World Title shot. And Rocky was fighting everybody and beating them. Rocky beat some tough contenders, and veterns.

                    no he should not.

he had the potential to be #1, but not the accomplishments to be ranked over chavez.

MAB gets more credit for beating Juarez because he struggled with him the 1st time. The prevailing opinion before the 1st fight was that Juarez was in over his head, his big fights had been at 126, and would be dominated. After Rocky's strong showing the 1st time, his stock went up, and MAB's wins ultimately look better.
