who cares what those geeks think. They probably more interested in watching Chess or Golf. I speak boxing all the time w/ppl in Cleveland and they all pretty much know there is no single HW champ but a bunch of them and they all know the Klitschko's. I think it's yer demographics. Philosophers and Poindexters speak of World of war craft and there body fungus collections....not boxing!

I know, I know, but let's leave all that for the other threads.

So you think he has a personality problem? Explain. This is what I want to find out in this thread, not the technicalities concerning 'titleholder' and 'champ'. There are tons of threads about that.

Funny answer money. I'm a poindexter pugilist, part-time poet and permanent *****-pounder.

Seriously, you think if I asked in the learning challenged class they'd know? I mean these were smart kids, sure.

No. They were not my friends, to start.
They were my students for an aftternoon.

Secondly the whole category 'nerd' is an anachronism. Leap out of the 80's. Oh wait, you probably don't know what 'anachronism' means.

I mentioned the incident a second time a few minutes later, at which point I stopped and said "How many of you know who that is?", only to receive blank and disappointed faces. (Of course 75% of them were busy trying to get a look at my ****, but that's another story :boobies: ). I said "He's only the heavyweight champ, but I guess no one cares about that anymore" and then continued about my business.

              That is all.
That is sum sad ****! Its the same here if I roll into the pub and ask who da champ I get Lewis? Holyfield? Dunno man!
Its pathetic! Most know Chuck Liddel tho if thats significant?

Well in terms of generating a wider audience, a sports star has to have more than just ability in the sport he or she competes in, as I'm sure you know. Sports stars in general are just not as charismatic as they used to be, and this, in effect has made a lot of them basically nonen****** outside the fans of that particular sport.

Take someone like Pete Sampras, he was pretty much as good as it got in terms of ability in his sport, but he just never seemed to have any personality. Compare that to someone like John McEnroe, and it's little wonder why McEnroe was/is much more well-known. That's just one example out of many.

There's absolutely no doubt about it, that if the Klitschko's had more outgoing peronalities, and where making some front pages instead of back pages, they would be more well-known. Although Mike Tyson was a prodigy and animal in the ring; I just can't see him ever being as well known without all the other antics. Same goes for Ali and many others.

You know whats even worse? I know yall find it hard to believe.

I asked a Grade 12 High School Exercise Science class who "Muhammad Ali" was, and no one knew..one guy raised his hand and said "I think he was a boxer".

                    I nearly shat my pants.

I wish boxing would get more TV coverage. I watch fights on Versus and ESPN/EPSN classic sometimes, but I would really love for boxing to be as popular as it used to be.
