There's a story that went the rounds about the time Harry Greb and Mickey Walker fought. The contest was reportedly such a thrilling affair that fans were divided over who really won. After the fight, Greb entered a bar and found Walker there. They first struck a friendly conversation but soon argued about who really won. The argument became so heated that they stepped out of the bar and resumed fighting out on the street!

The bar's patrons followed them carrying chairs and watched the free entertainment.

Wow! reminds me of the street fight between rocky balboa and tommy gunn on the night tommy won the championship by beating a paper champ. Maybe this is the legend that inspired stallone for rocky v.

Walker did two things best: delivering a left hook and drinking.

Sportswriters usually talk about fighters staggering out of the ring; Walker often staggered INTO the ring. Facing the 6'3 Paul Swiderski who weighed some 220 lbs., the 5'7 and middleweight Walker, could have been arrested as a common drunk!

In the first round of that fight Walker hit the floor so often, the ref did not bother rising from a kneeling position for most of the round. He knew Walker will be visiting the canvass again...

In one of the times that Walker was floored, his manager, Doc Kearns, pulled the plug and sent the venue into darkness. When the lights went back on, Walker was already sober. It was not too long afterwards that Swiderski was out of there.

But the most remarkable story I have heard about the Toy Bulldog was about one time, Walker raised a fist to punch the mobster Al Capone. A friend stepped between them and took Walker for a walk.

Good thing scarface wasn't bringing a baseball bat and his henchmen must be out somewhere or walker could have been a dead meat.

With most heroes, it's sometimes difficult to separate legends from myths pal. But with Walker, everything about him is not that hard to believe! The guy is simply one of a kind even in the prohibition era of so many characters!

Guys that's a clip of him fooling around shadowboxing. Means ****. Greb didn't even train or shadowbox seriously that much, he mostly sparred and fought endlessly. From what I've heard he barely even hit bags, just other people.

Also to say Greb stylistically loses to Hagler is a joke. Show me footage of him fighting a pro bout and then talk about his style.

I dunno how the fight would go between these two rugged middleweights with iron chins, but they were both great. Greb of course has the better resume and was a better P4P fighter (beating quality heavier men on a consistent basis).

Walker was one in a million. There's no one like that around in boxing these days. You know, the personalities of today's fighters put me to sleep to be honest. Then again, so do their fights.

I could post a video (if I could find it, I remember seeing it on ESPN classic of him training for what was the 2nd Schmeling fight I believe) of Joe Louis getting tagged over and over again so that his headgear is knocked over his eyes in sparring. Imagine if that was the only video we had of Louis.

What if the only surviving footage of Tyson was of him getting floored by Greg Page in that sparring session, or of Ali allowing his sparring partners to dig their best shots to his body while he covered up and did nothing but play a heavybag?

let it go son...louis was a formidable fighter..the best of the heavys in my opinion..where do you come off ridiculing greats like louis, greb and dempsey ?
