        Yeah he was, but he had to work 2 fights back-to-back so I forgive him.

          mils lane, he was old school

          right now it would be kenny bayliss and joe cortez, also the ref who officiated morales and barreras first fight in 2000, he was a good ref, i forgot his name but i think he died.

                  Current refs are probably Joe Cortez & Steve Smoger - both get the job done very effectively, keeping the action flowing while still keeping control of the fight, without being intrusive.
                  Baylis isn't bad, but still don't think he's up to that level as yet.

                  Recent favourites were:
                  Mills Lane - a classic guy & great referee, who seems to get what Jay Nady doesn't, ie. how to be yourself without intruding into the action;

                  Mitch Halpern - superb at keeping control of rough fights while keeping the action going. Didn't know he was dead & am very sorry to hear it.

                  & Richard Steele - a great referee who handled hundreds of major bouts superbly. Gets bad press from some people, but the only bad call I remember him making was the Rudduck-Tyson bout, & think that was because of all the hype about Tyson's power.

                  A classic referee was Davy Pearl, a tiny little guy who looked like he wouldn't say boo to a mouse, incredibly unassuming, yet he effortlessly controlled some of the most dangerous fighters of all time in savage bouts.

                    Mills Lane.... for all time

                    CArlos Padilla was also one hell of a referee...
