If you take in the fact that Vargas should have been at 160 atleast two years ago then maybe he isnt as washed up as we think. I mean if he was having weight problems when he fought Winky then he should have gone up after the DLH fight at the least.Comment

When Vargas faced Winky, he only had 13-14 fights, all being by ko, but for the first time Vargas was taken the 12 round distance by Winky. I don't think they would move him up to middlewight so early, when Hopkins was ruling the Middleweight division. Even Winky stuck around 154 because Hopkins was at Middleweight.Comment

Meaningless, but entertaining as hell. And be honest, that's why we all watch. Somebody is gonna get KTFO.Comment

When i first herd about this fight i expressd anger right away to my family, though they like the ida of another mayorga (were from nicaragua so there really into the fighter from your country thing) fight. But i was mad, cuz a shot fighter versus one who is at a weight class he has no buisness at???wth...and its a ppv,u gtta be kidding me.
But now i am thinking with a fighter who brings a fight to you like mayorga and a fighter that will be motivated from trash talking like vargas this has potential to be very entertating while it last. People said the same about ward vs gatti, that there was not point the winner would go no where but its still made history. So i look foward to it..and can you imagine these 2 at the press confernce..this and a "Toney vs Tarver conference" would be the most enjoyable.
Trust me when these two meet in the ring it wont be the first time they have had thrown punches at each other by then.Comment

Ok, I must admit (perhaps as a guilty pleasure) I love this fight. I like both fighters and I agree with the viewpoint of "both guys are finished as contenders but their styles make for a good fight".
But, as far as the PPV issue, well, I hope Don King has something to do with this, believe it or not.
There is no chance this fight happens off PPV. HBO isn't going to buy this fight and put it on WCB, it's not even a title fight--they'll be hard-pressed to find a loophole to make it 12 rounds. Showtime couldn't afford something like this--not that they'd want to anyway. So it has to be PPV (like all those Warriors shows and the like).
However, I haven't seen anything about DKP being involved in this fight, and as rare as this is, I HOPE DK will co-promote because this fight NEEDS one of his stacked undercards. Think about it, he could put Collazo on there (win or lose vs. Mosley), Valuev could be in the co-feature with another joke mandatory if he somehow gets the Chagaev fight in between here and the McCline fight, Juan Diaz could make another defense, the Rivera/Simms winner could go, Mormeck could make a defense if he beats Bell in their rematch, Adamek if he beats Dawson, etc etc. But no Don King and none of this is possible.
Main Events, on the other hand, doesn't have as much to offer. I guess we could see Brock's comeback fight here, as well as another showcase (hopefully for them) for Joel Julio. Giovanni Lorenzo and Malik Scott are the other possibilities, but that's about it. I guess best case scenario would have something like this:
Vargas/Mayorga
Brock/Brewster or T.Thompson
Julio/Golden Johnson or Sebastian Lujan
If Main Events can somehow get Brewster or at least get him for this one night and are willing to risk Brock's relevance as a contender, that would be a nice co-feature. Let's just hope it's not another Zuri Lawrence type opponent.
For Julio, I'd love to see Julio-Judah, but no way Judah takes that kind of fight on the comeback trail unless there are just no other options. My thought is Judah will be fighting lesser opponents through '07 with his new promoter as he builds toward another title shot in late '07 or '08.
Not a great PPV at all, not even a good one, but a decent one could come together if we're lucky...Comment
