Whitaker was pretty much always better in rematches. He really took over the second half of the McGirt fight. McGirt was a hell of a fighter too. He would beat many of the welters we have today in dominating fashion.

Imo, blacks have a strong influence over there, that tells me that there is a large majority of blacks over in Texas. Just listen to the non-black rapper from Texas and you'll be like wtf, even emenim doesn't say ***** in his raps -i don't think he deos- and he kicks it with blacks too.

No excuse for Whitiker to not have a good majority of his people back his play. Its been said, blacks dont' support there fighters say, as they do with the basketball or football players of there heritage. Times are changing though cause Winky, Roy, Floyd -seems just recently- can pull a good crowd from there hometowns or where there is a large majority of blacks - as did Spinks too have a good size crowd backing his play. Now, Mosley, he's never had that big crowd at his fights that i recall and hes been a boxing star for awhile.

I love P and I knew Buddy was good but not that good, when Pernell went down from the flash knockdown he started smiling to the crowd. He was extremely confident and then went on to take control of the fight. I wonder how good he would've been if he didn't have his issues with drugs.

Didn't he start his issues with drugs after the Delahoya fight? Or did he use drugs through out his career?

                I concur.

There's really nobody at the lighter divisions today that was on his level....maybe Floyd. I never really liked the guy personally, but I suppose I'm growing fond of him.

I do remember how great he was and all that Jazz.

because when guys are on another level, its harder to like them when they are on top. i can relate to that feeling in some sports. but when they arent on top no more, you kinda remember when they were and think "the sport would be better with them around"

I'm not sure I've heard different thing's but I have family in the tidewater area, and in VA it's known or assumed that he atleast dabbled before then. In that time it's not to suprising, even watching that second Buddy fight he seemed to be getting hit alot more and off balance more compared to the 1st fight or earlier fight's. Shows how good he was and though he lost to tito he definitely showed heart and did well to not be himself IMO. Ferocity you got the 1st rivera fight?

Whitaker was said to have been struggling with alcohol abuse and ******* abuse well before the De La hoya fight.

I haven't heard anything that documents his ******* habit that accurately, but there are sources that said he was struggling with coke several months before he was slated to fight DLH. He was said have been abusing alcohol for years before that.
