I'm half asleep but I know creed was not based on ali like someone above said.
Its based on BLANCK. I'm not with it so I'm drawing a blanck on name. But he had a trillogy with ali and broke ali's jaw in the fight.

If Hollywood thinks anybody with a boxing background is going to believe for even one second that 60 year old Sylvester Stallone could take a real punch from Antonio Tarver without getting knocked OUT, buster up badly etc etc etc, than they are even caught up in the world of make believe that I ever thought possible. Now, the two biggest flaws of the movie (and otherwise I thought it was pretty good) are these. 1st.... In his prime Rocky's face, even in winning, was beaten to a pulp by Creed, Lang and Drago. Now at 60 years old he goes distance with the reigning world champ, a guy 33-0 with 30 KO's, and all he gets is a bloody nose and lip and a cut around the eye??? Annnnnnnnnnnt! And 2nd.... in this movie they refer to George Foreman winning the title at an advanced age over Moorer and they reference Muhammad Ali by face and name.... Well, where was Ali in the world of 1975 and the original ROCKY? Creed WAS Ali.....even boasting in the original about being "the greatest of all time!!" Where was Foreman in all this? In 1975 Creed was 48-0, the unbeaten world champ, so he must have been champ for a while seeing as how famous and legendary they made him out to be in that movie. If that's true then why was Joe Frazier, introduced in the first film, as big and famous of a fighter as they made him out to be? Where was Ali and Foreman in that world? Foreman came back to fight Moorer in the latest movie..... but when was he the champ in that world? They made a HUGE goof IMO of mentioning Foreman and they never should have made Ali out to be a real person. That messed it up bad to me.
        Scully, lighten up, man. lol!!!

Okay, 1. Carl Weathers, the actor that played Creed, didn't give permission to use his footage without compensation, so, naturally, Sly's going to honor that by not showing any footage of the Creed fights....and, I would imagine that probably got Creed no mention as well.

        2. Maybe in the world of 1975 in the original Rocky movie, Ali never got to fight again and went into retirement and stayed there in 1970? Possible, no?

        3. Forman's only carreer in the Rocky Universe was the second coming because in the first coming Apollo Creed knocked him out in Zaire.

Here's a possible scenario: Ali is stripped in 1967, Frazier wins the New York version of the vacant title, Creed wins the WBA version by knocking out Jimmy Ellis, and the WBC holds out recognizing anyone. Meanwhile, Creed surpasses Ali in fame by fighting a similar style; but with more power, convincing Yank Durham to avoid a title unification for fear of Frazier losing to him, all the while Frazier builds up his reputation beating contenders just as impressively as Creed, making the fans clamor for a showdown. Then, in 1973, Frazier loses his title against Olympic gold medalist, George Foreman, and gets blitzed in two rounds, setting the stage for a Creed-Foreman unification for the undisputed title as the WBC finally gives in to the fact that Ali will never fight again. Apollo meets George in Zaire and stops him in 8 rounds, making him a legend.....and explaing why Frazier says to Creed in Rocky, "You been ducking me a long time".....but then Creed has his two tough fights with Balboa, losing the second and retiring, leaving fans wondering what would have happend had Creed and Frazier ever met....kind of like we do with Bowe and Lewis.

        How's that?

Oh, and Stallone probably thought Tarver's "pitty-pat" punches were the real thing. lol!!!

It's just a movie, bro....and it covers 30 years, meaning new fans might not ever have seen the original. Don't worry 'bout those details, just enjoy the story.

And Foreman? I don't see how it is possible. It's like in "ALI" with Will Smith and they talked about how much attention was paid to every little detail YET at the Liston weigh-in, in the movie. Will Smith was NOT wearing a "Bear Huntin'" Jacket. To people that know better...things like that REALLY stand out.

with all due respect Ice..your being very nit-picky.

1... I didnt feel ANY emotion during the BALBOA-TARVER figth scenes.. I did in the first 4 movie but not thi sone AT ALL....

2... If Tarver hit Stallone with REAL punches there is no way in this world that Stallone at age 60 doesn't go down, out, or wobble badly.. you are INSANE if you think otherwise....they couldnt have a steady flow of footage because every time Tarver landed a solid punch filming would have to stop instantly so Sylvester could clear his head... jeez, man..don't let Hollywood just tell you anything and you believe it. There is not a real boxer in the world that thinks anything other than the truth in this matter

              3. If they made a movie in a few years about the current war in Iraq with a ficticious president in office now but they made references to the current George Bush in office then that would throw the movie off... you couldnt help but think about the timeline.

              That's all.

                Thumbs up...
I thought that was the best part. The entire theater I saw it in was cringing and shouting the whole fight like it was real. It was terrific. I couldn't even help yelling.

And for the record, Scully, Tarver did knock Stallone out at least twice in filming. Obviously they didn't keep that in the film, but Sly was hospitalized. He said on one knockdown, he couldn't even move for 8 seconds he was so badly stung. He told Tarver not to pull his punches, and Tarver said he tried his best not to hit Stallone flush, but he definitely floored him several times, knocked him out twice, and sent him to the hospital once.

I feel ya, man. Hell, I had a huge problem with how quickly Robert aged from III to IV to V. The kid was like 4 or 5 when Rocky left to fight Drago and then he was 10 when Balboa comes home from the airport! Was Rocky in Siberia for 5 years?! WTF?! lol!!!

Regarding the passion aspect, it was there....just not in the fight. The passion of this movie was in the charcter's life. I don't want to say too much and reveal anything and ruin it for those who haven't seen it; but to me, the fight wasn't the main focus of this one....and that's why it didn't have the same feel as the other movies. And that's not a bad thing. Rocky III and IV were lame as hell to me; but there was passion in the fights...but that's the only place there was passion.

Just depends on what you want, I suppose.

LOLOL You are soooooooooooooooooooooo ridiculous. How do u know he got KO's by Antonio? Because they told you right? NOT because you were there. You are obviously not aware that it is COMMON practice in movies like this, sports movies, for them to leak stories implying that things are real, the actor playing a role could have been a real athlete if he wanted to etc etc. They said that they wanted realsim so they were told to throw realpunches etc...... well, there is NO WAY in the world those fight scenes were real... maybe because I have been a boxer/trainer for so long and know first hand what the real difference is that I look too much into it... in any event, I am telling you now as an expert on the subject, Sylvester Stallone was NOT taking real punches from Antonio Tarver.
