i really hate scoring even rounds. i always score one winner for each round. scoring even rounds just mucks up the final score and could easily cheat a fighter out of a win.

if a round is that close, just pick the guy who looked better that round.

and remember, you can change ur score if you go back and look at that close round. your not the official judge, you have that power.

Yeah, I referenced that in the original post... obviously if I was a paid judge and had to judge under the "10 point must system" I'd not do it. I rarely do it anyway, but did it a lot in Taylor-Ouma cos the action was so laboured.

i only scored rounds 2 and 3 for ouma, taylor got the rest of 'em.

On initial viewing (remember, this was 4am my time, so I might have been half asleep) I scored rounds 7, 9 and 10 even. I can't give Taylor rounds where he's only working for 30 seconds, even if that backing up, holding and blocking IS part of the "gameplan".

Rounds I gave to Ouma outright were 6, 8 and 12. As far as I'm concerned, you don't win the 12th by being gassed and doing **** all. I'd just like to see a 12th round where Taylor ISN'T knackered and sporting a ****ed-up eye.

117-114 Taylor. If I sorted out the even rounds (one of which - the 10th - I marked as "pos. Ouma") then it could be 116-112 Taylor.

AFAIC, anyone who says Taylor won this fight clearly must also be admitting that they thought Tarver beat Roy the first time round. I fail to see any real material difference.

defense, effective aggressivness, ring generalship, clean punching. you gotta keep these in mind when you score a fight.

clean punching and ring generalship are the easiest to score. if a guy is in control for most of the round, he wins in the ring generalship category. if the punches are clean and easy to see and they land, then he wins the clean punching category.

taylor's punches were easier to see. you could easily tell they landed. and ouma was the one chasing after taylor, which means taylor was the one dictating the pace... albeit in a slow and boring way.

i dont know if this fight is really worth talking about... seriously, it was a waste of time.

I can see your view, and I'm contradicting myself by saying Floyd comfortably won the Castillo fight in another thread, but for me "spending two-and-a-half minutes backing up and clinching" isn't really earning the guy the round... even if the other guy is only just moving forward and getting smacked. This wasn't natty escapology, this was just... walking backwards to the ropes.

well, if the round is even for those two and a half minutes, but taylor does more in one big burst than ouma does in the whole round, then i think he should get the round based on that burst cuz that burst was that one thing that separated the winner from the loser.

Yeah, I sort of agree with you... but it still seemed a pretty listless way of going about it.

For a lot of the fight I just thought Taylor looked bored and like he didn't want to be there.

You have no proof and he was found not guilty. End of story and your wack attempt to bash him.

boxing's not a pretty sport. sometimes you gotta work with it in an ugly way.
