What's next for Calzaghe (beyond Manfredo)?

    Looking beyond the Manfredo fight...

IF the reports that Taylor won't move up are true (see the "Taylor to stay at 160!" thread). What is Calzaghe gonna do next?

My gues is he'll renew his efforts to get Hopkins in the ring.
If that fails he may try for Winky or possibly Tarver for a last money fight.
If none of those can be made he might just retire.

    What do you ppl think?

Hopkins, simple as that. A win over him would boost his resume' quite a bit. Hopkins is a much different fighter and I'll be rooting for Hopkins since I've watched and loved him for 10 years now.

With all the talk of Taylor staying at 160lbs I'm kinda disappointed. I hope taylor changes his mind, he openly talks about always wanting to fight the best, which he's done thus far. But I mean damn, Calzaghe is making a lot of noise and has openly expressed intrest in Taylor. That fight would sell very well.

Seem "Taylor to stay at 160" might be a bit of an overenterpretation from what i can find. Could be negotiating tactics to make Calzaghe pay more.
Some places it's just interpreted like "Calzaghe-Taylor won't happen untill late 2007, earliest" and that's no surprice with the Manfredo fight now set for April.

Calzaghe made noise about six months ago, then he retired to the shadows again when he chose to fight bums all the time again. He fought one guy that was perceived as dangerous in how many fights? Then he goes back to the same old, same old.

Aside from that, Tarver isn't a big money fight anymore. He lost his last fight to a guy who was at 160 for nearly his whole career. I still say he should fight Kessler, even if it's not "huge" money, because that's the best fight out there right now, the unification fight.

I hope the danish government carry through with their election promise of free calzaghe obsession treatment for all. It's a serious affliction that seems to be growing exponentially.

Oh, and Calzaghe's fighting Taylor in the summer of 2007. What do you think the whole Manfredo/Taylor struggling to make weight/HBO mentioning him all the time during Taylors fight all means?

Judging from the quotes from the Taylor camp, it is unlikely to happen until the end of 2007 IF it happens.

And as for the danish government - i've heard they are making an additional grant to next years budget. The money are supposed to go to an even bigger offer for Calzaghe to fight Kessler - just so Calzaghe will look even more ridiculous when he turns it down in favour of the Calzaghe-Bika/Ashira II superfight.
