I would actually say the base of Mayweather's defense, and why it's so good:

Is because it's so ****ing versatile.

Can Floyd be fast with his reflexes and dodge punches? Absolutely.
Can Floyd hold a high gaurd and stalk his man down and punish him? Absolutely (see the Judah fight)
Can Floyd stand in the pocket, or along the ropes and block and roll punches with his shoulders? Definitely.

It's a combination of all these things that makes Floyd without a doubt, the best defensive fighter in the game today.

To suggest that his defense is just based purely on reflexes, is dumb and ignorant.

Floyd has all the tool to win Vs Tony. Not by KO.. But a stoppage for sure. Margarito looked so suspect yesterday. Mayweather would have countered him so much yesterday. Tony is beatable if you don't fight his fight. Mayweather will dance around him. I've also said this many times.. Only way Tony could win if Mayweather is a stationary target.

And that's the difference between Jones and Mayweather. Jones relied solely on reflexes. Once Mayweather slows down he will still be good defensively because he actually knows defense and just doesn't make his opponent miss with head movement.
