You wont find very many Mexicans in PABlack Jesus you always talk about regionalism in America but the fact is that this phenomenon is just as present in many many other countries (it is MUCH stronger in both Italy and Germany, which are the only two countries I know well enough to talk informedly about). And the point you mention about Judah fighting a Mexican in L.A. is not a regional issue. There are Mexican-Americans everywhere in the U.S., and a non-Mexican American fighting a Mexican is always going to be placed in front of split crowdComment

The difference is that in his last 3 fights, Taylor has fought better opposition than anyone Calzaghe has fought in his entire career.Sincerely, and I'm not saying this because I'm a Calzaghe fan, after thinking long and hard about this match up.. I think Calzaghe puts Taylor in a similar situation as Jeff Lacy (although not as brutal), basically making Taylor look as young as he actually is, it won't be a blow out by any means but Calzaghe will box circles around Taylor from start to finish, winning 8-10 rounds in the process.
Who has Calzaghe ever fought that even comes close to the #1 p4p (Hopkins) and the #2 p4p Wright.
And Taylor held his own in each of those fightsComment

I'm going by the way Winky effectively pressured and boxed Taylor. The difference is that in his last 3 fights, Taylor has fought better opposition than anyone Calzaghe has fought in his entire career.
Who has Calzaghe ever fought that even comes close to the #1 p4p (Hopkins) and the #2 p4p Wright.

Calzaghe is bigger and hits harder and punches just as fast.Comment

It also helps that your population is more than 100 times that of the country Joe Calzaghe is from. The fact remains that an American boxer does not get the whole country behind him. Period. That **** doesn't happen anymore and won't happen anymore because boxing support in America is much more racial and cultural since the life of the sport (all the fights and fighters) lives here. We don't get one guy who gets real good and climbs to the top of the sport, we get most of them. And then those who are not born here, still live here and become Americanized. So we have a lot choices and people tend to support their own much more here than get behind one guy.
Calzaghe was not going into the Lacy fight with a particularly massive fan following in the arena. It was only the moment the punters realised that this was going to be a one-sided whooping for the Brit (yep, British when he wins, Welsh when he loses .... it's a British thing) that it turned into a Calzaghe love in. It shows a staggering lack of knowledge about things this side of the water if you think that a Welsh/Scots/Englishman fights in another country (particularly against opponents from that country) and will still get public support.Comment

Joey, Joey, Joey, when are you and Warren going to get your fingers out and engineer some defining fights. Kessler, Taylor and Hopkins are the obvious fighters they should be going after. Not going to hold my breath though, it's been disappointment after disappointment with Calzaghe.Comment
