I personally think Hopkins deserved a draw in the first fight. He should have pressed the action more earlier. I also think Winky won against a better Taylor.

The hype machine actually materialzed after he knocked Joppy out. Being the first one to do so ever.....and not to mention moving from welter/jr middle.
That's also another reason why I'm sick and tired of hearing the "Blown up Welterweight" bull****. Tito had the same power at 160 that he did at 147.
Any way you ****ing slice it. Plus he was equally as fast with his combos.

If Hopkins fights again, a Calzaghe fight is the biggest move he can make, but it has to be at 168. Not only would a win prevent Calzaghe from breaking the record, but Hopkins would become the true champ at his third weight class, and he would simultaneously be light heavy and super middle champion.
This fight is also much more attractive to PPV and HBO. They have to push for Taylor-Winky II and Calzaghe-Hopkins instead of Calzaghe-Taylor. Then the winners can face each other, and hey, if that means Taylor-Hopkins III, so be it. (I know I just scared many of you to death for fear of boredom.)Comment

Don't forget Calzaghe was basically anonymous in the US back then as well.
Now, both are big names, both are HBO fighters, and a huge PPV in Vegas is feasible. In 2000, it would have had to be in England and do you really think Hopkins could get a decision there? He has enough trouble getting decisions here.Comment

Nah, Calzaghe is still in his prime and Hopkins looked so good vs. Tarver I'm sure he has at least one more good performance in the bag. Besides, if Hopkins had moved up then, we never would have had Hopkins vs. Tito, Hopkins would have never been undisputed middleweight king and the fight in 2000 wouldn't be nearly as big as it is now. Hopkins was not a big, big name until the Tito fight.

America is MUCH worse for bad decisions than England, I can't remember the last international bad decision there was in England, or Britain for that matter.Comment
