I have no bias. Im from New Zealand, so if i side with any it should be Britain as we are part of the commonwealth. If we are talking modern day well yeah... AMERICAN boxers are probably still better then British.

That is obviously a sarcastic remark.

          LOL OK name them!

I'll name just a few of the many British champions to get you started.

          Ted Kid Lewis
John H Stracy (beat Jose Angel Napoles)
          Ken Buchannan
Randy Turpin (beat Sugar Ray Robinson)
          Lloyd Honeyghan (beat Don Curry)
          John Conteh
          Alan Minter
Duke McKenzie (three weight World Champ)
          Nigel Benn
          Chris Eubank
          Naseem Hamed
          Lennox Lewis
          Ricky Hatton
          Joe Calzaghe

There are a lot more less 'famous' champions, not bad for a little island!

considering Britain's size i'd say we spawn great fighters at a higher ratio than america (it has about 10 times as many great fighters but is about 20 times bigger).

Personally, and this is going to sound contradictory; but part of me wishes it was in the minutes....it adds to the mystique, if that makes any sense. Ole Henry rocked him, that's for sure....and I'll bet that got him many a free beer, especially considering what that mouthy kid went on to become. Even I have to admit that moment in time is the stuff of legends. Great moment indeed....moreso in retrospect.

You all have good points, I don't think you can brand the best fighters because of their background, I mean Lennox Lewis was brought up in Canada, just born in England, and Steve Collins was brought up in the states also, and I don't understand why you just talk about american and british, because alot of the best fighters come from Mexico.

                Just my 2 cents.

While Britain has had its fair share of good champions at different weight classes... it can't compete with the US of A. It's just crazy, ultra-nationalism to say otherwise.

I concur that Britain has produced some very good fighters. However, looking in the past the US is far superior to the fighters that we produced. Maybe in the future Britain will produce the best fighters. But as for who has produced the best fighters in history, Britain can not even begin to compare.

Thats a valid statement. Detroit has produced a good number of greats, a bigger number of very good fighters. It would be interesting to do some research and see how Michigan alone stands against Britain. Thats not even mentioning Philadelphia, Vegas, Newyork, etc.
