It's too early to be sure because a lot of these guys are still moving up through the rankings and for all we know some could become ATGs. But right now it doesn't look like a strong class compared to other years. Shakur Stevenson stands out because he was the youngest to win a medal yet has achieved the most as a pro.

None of the 10 gold medallists have won a world title, and 5 of them have suffered a loss.

Good thread man, I always like looking back on the Olympic classes.

Shakur, Ramirez, MJ and Joyce are probably the only four who have fulfilled expectations as of now.

Maybe Ramirez does need to beat Dogboe first to support that statement but I do think he looks the part.

A few non-medalist Olympians I would also add to the watchlist are:

      Lawrence Okolie
      Joe Cordina
      Michael Conlan
      Zhanibek Alimkhanuly
      Eimantas Stanionis
      Gary Antuanne Russell.

All have made good pro’s and several have won World title’s.

A good thread. It's been 6+ years already. Most of them do not have enough fights. Heavyweight Hrogovic has the most. For him the world IBF title belt is next. One big factor it seems as if you have to be American or British to get the fight fans who will pay to see you fight professionally.

There's plenty of fighters in here with more fights than Hrgovic, including some good pros - Bauderlique, Buatsi, Shakur, Cissokho. Joyce has the same number and has achieved more in his fifteen than Filip has.

I'm not saying the Olympic 2016 class sucks, just that they have trouble getting fights. In Hrgovic's case he is clearly being avoided old and fat fighters! I think he is not only the next champ, but a significant one. Flilp has picked up an unusually high amount of nay sayers. Not to say anything bad on Joyce but at his age he needs more fights. All of the 2016 class does. Everyone it seems is affraid of a loss and the fans with the money would rather pay to see a you tube fighter like Jake Paul fight. Boxing has a real problem.

Oh I wasn't suggesting you had, just your point about Hrgovic having had the most fights wasn't right. You're spot on with the issues in boxing btw.

I was using Clegg's data for the 2016 Olympic medal winners. On that I was right, Boxing has issues with up and comers getting fights But Hrgovic is not one of them. Guys turn him down.

Hrgovic should have lost his last fight. No one is afraid of him, he simply brings no money to the table.

I’m curious to see what damage Julio Cesar La Cruz and some of those other Cubans will do in the pros.

Just Ruiz, Parker, and Hunter have recently passed on fights with him. They all took less money in their next fight and as shot at a world title.

He won his last fight on all three judges cards. I challenge you to produce your round by round card.

I agree with you let's see what these new Cuban professionals can bring to boxing. Like the undefeated cuban heavyweight Linear Pero who was absoultey drilled and KO'd by Hrgovic in the Olympics.

Have you seen my top 15 heavyweight prospect lit by the way? It is rather detailed, and far from a list of just names.
