  • Will covid have a lasting impact on the boxing industry?

Not the top guys, they will still be around and had money

but wondering the undercard fighters, the sparring partners, the journeymen you think any of them have left or made career changes?

A lot of guys prob had different day jobs but still, by the time it really starts up normal again you are looking at a 2 year gap, I bet a lot will have left the sport for good and we end up with a smaller overall pool of boxers.

have any boxing gyms been closed down permanently? Think there is a longer term downsizing of the sport

Lets look at your thread historically. Boxing has been through some tough times... The great depression stands out. Covid is a different situation because of the mechanics of how it causes problems, but I think through testing, which is painful (with me they took two swabs and it felt like they jammed them into my brain lol), people can keep going.

But there is a BIG impact! Fighting in a venue with virtually no spectators, etc. I think boxing will beat covid back.

It will have an effect. On boxing as well as on all other sports. Kids are unable to train. That goes for the elite as well as lesser talents. The impact will be substantial on a small generation of fighters and athletes. Fairly big deal IMO.

Going off what Battling Nelson argues, covid may also help lead MMA to market dominance.

MMA fighters can be created/trained at a considerably less technical level than boxers and still be entertaining; over the next two years it will be easier for MMA to fill its ranks with participants than it will be for boxing promoters to find well trained/prepared fighters. Plus already functioning at a lesser financial level/demands MMA will be able to bounce back quicker.

It would, but it will too quickly be overshadowed by even bigger changes that will overtake the races of man and engulf us all in a live horror movie. Garage-made monsters are just around the corner using home CRISPR kits. People who will release pythons into the sewers of their neighborhoods, are also willing to build monsters you have never seen before, and some you have. It is here now. Geneticists have already made a living dog that glows like a firefly because it has a firefly gene.
