Prime for prime these guys would be wearing 10oz gloves. Maybe even 8's.im not sure when 10oz gloves we're mandated from 8's for heavyweights, but it would be no more than that.

8 oz gloves with their power? A little scary.

Yeah it is. Think about the 4 and 6oz gloves guys like Jeffries, Dempsey and Louis wore!! Going from training in 16oz gloves to sparring in 12's feels like you're almost wearing nothing. I can't imagine wearing gloves that small.

4 or 6 oz gloves. I recall Jeffries had a fight as champion with a no name. When the promoter issued the gloves Jeffries said this is not going to be a long fight. 55 seconds later it was over.

I give Liston the edge. He was the better boxer with better technique, better jab, hit almost as hard, and would not be intimidated. I'm thinking similar to Liston's fights with Cleveland Williams.

I think dempseys era was the last to us 6 oz. Louis era was mostly 8 oz, up until the early 80s.

You may be right. I've tried looking up a few things but haven't found anything yet. Haven't spent a lot of time researching it, but I'd like to know myself.

The last that I remember is 1982 with Mancici-Kim and then the changes to glove size. ........Rockin'
