  • Has Anyone Become #1 In Back To Back Divisions In Back To Back Fights?

There is talk of Teofimo Lopez fighting the Jose Ramirez vs Josh Taylor winner at 140 next time out after he beat Lomachenko last Saturday to become #1 at 135.

IF this were to happen & IF Teofimo were to win would he be the first to become the #1 guy in back to back divisions in back to back fights or has someone or someone's done this before?

If no one has done this before who's attempted it & come up short?

Maybe Pac fighting Hatton at Jr welter and Cotto at welter back to back?

tommy hearns in 1987: andries for 175 title then roldan for 160 title.
other 175 champs were leslie stewart and bobby czyz. after leonard and hagler were out of the picture, hearns became a logical number 1 in late 1987.

joe calzaghe: kessler in a 3 belt unification at 168 then hopkins for the ring belt at 175.

Pac must have at 140-147, right?

Calzaghe definitely. Heck Pac may even have done so at feather and super feather, but that would need some digging.

Some guy mentioned Tommy Hearns but I don't think that is true.

Ray Leonard? He beat Kalule who was the clear no1 at 154 followed by Hearns at 147 to claim universal recognition as the welterweight king.

Some here claims Calzaghe, but that can’t be as he was already no 1 at 168 before he defeated Kessler.

Cotto wasn’t #1 at WW so not Pacquaio.

I can’t think of any to be honest.

It’s doubtful Teofimo’s next fight will be the Taylor-Ramirez winner anyway.

He was #1 in the WBO, Cotto was the WBO champion.

                    Ok?

If we are going off sanctioning body rankings then there’s probably a plethora of examples.

Pretty sure TS is talking about beating the #1 in the division one after the other.

                    Cotto wasn’t #1 at 147.
