Harry Wills was offered an opportunity to join Dempsey's camp but declined. His reasoning was that he didn't want to be just a sparring partner to Dempsey. But, had he taken that offer, he would have had an opportunity to get in the ring with him and establish whether or not he was truly the better of the two. The press would have picked up on that in a hot minute. This would have created more public demand for a title fight between the two or Dempsey would have to admit he got licked in sparring. In hindsight, another missed opportunity by Wills.

That may be some people's opinions. Which really is the essence of these type of threads. Some people feel this is an opportunity to re-write the history books and that there should be a grand jury to determine whether or not certain fighter's records may not be as impressive as many believe. Again, opinions, much like P4P lists, mythical match-ups, and the like. Some people feel Johnson was overrated, some feel that Dempsey was overrated. I don't think it warrants insults, personal attacks and an OCD level of standing your ground and mudslinging to get an opinion across.
