    Gene Tunney vs John Ruiz

If Tunney fought Ruiz rather than Dempsey, could he have won?? I don't know if he could have.

John ruiz was the definition of an average fighter. Ruiz was slow, not a huge puncher, and a so so chin. Also was beaten by a smaller man in Roy, who moved and gave angles. So Tunnney would have a real good shot with Ruiz, if he stayed away from in fighting and moved on him.

Stoney, Ruiz's manager would have a better chance than Ruiz...He threw more punches per a bout than his charge, thats for sure.

Gene Tunney has ATG skills for any heavyweight era.

John Ruiz on the other hand was quite pedestrian.

Tunney dead, disadvantage; Ruiz not dead, advantage.

            Ruiz by forfeit.

yeah but with Ruiz? I would still give Tunney a slight advantage...Even dead he would throw more punches...Ruiz was just a big Puerto Rican with a big heart who wanted to hug in the ring... Kind of like Ortiz who wanted to hug Floyd's bald acorn head and forgot he was in a boxing match.

There must have been a match some time when Stoney and Lou Duva were in opposing corners. That is a guaranteed action fight.

I always wondered if Andy Ruiz was related to John Ruiz?
