  • To the purist of the day any wrapped hand constituted a 'loaded' glove.

The most interesting line is the dissatisfaction with fighters being able to ". . . hit any way they please."

This issue has a lot of consequences. Somewhere down this road we decided to go with letting boxers wrap and hit any target as hard as they can. When boxing was a type of martial art, there was serious consideration to how blows were delivered asnot to injure the hands.

As a matter of fact, one of the reasons cited when Ju Jutsu guys did well in cross fighting matches, was that they used the blade of the hand for their strikes, and that they could also strike the punching arm of the boxing attacker.

The old way of using the lead and the cross had a lot more mechanical points that allowed the Kinematic communitive locking of the body from the foot on the ground all the way to the target. A knock out blow was delivered by hitting the chin on the button and did not need excessive force.

You cannot hit this way with wraps, the power does not transfer the same way, and when the gloves get any size, there is virtually no transfer of power.

Here are some follow-up safety rules from the NBA.

It seems by 1948 they saw more wrappings as a positive thing and weren't paying much attention to its impact on fighters' health.

yea, boxing was not about... who could knock who out

boxing was about.... who's hands would survive

broken/dislocated hands and fingers were the most likely result of a fight

BKB is still a little that way today... not quite but similar
