I remember more the lhw final where the bull beat up the matador. (Leon Spinks over Sixto Soria)

Those names put the myth of Stevenson into perspective, I think.

IMO one of the best ever with no caveats... Pro, ammy...martian...I don't care. The guy was fantastic and would have been one of the best professionals for sure.

He checks all the boxes. His speed and finesse was that of a quick middle weight...His punch power and technique impeccable and his feet were fast.

People often think that the ammys is full of scrubs and that a guy like Stephenson should have been a robot defeating all...we do not work that way and there were some guys who bested him occasionally. Happens to everyone! But think it through...In the Amateurs there are no rounds to take off, no lapses allowed. You have very little time and have to adapt a strategy where you are hitting the other guy as many times and as accurately as possible.

Woulda coulda. Great ability but it wasn't a guarantee for the pro's, we've seen countless cases of this. And I'm especially critical of cases where a guy sticks around the amateur system his whole career and turns into a primed adult beating up kids.

Vysotsky beat that ass twice, once by KO. Did Teofilo have any excuses those nights, Queen?

... in the final bout, in Montreal, Stevenson stopped "my boy" Mircea Simon... I watched live, of course...

... I even was in the arena back in 1973, in Buicharest... When Stevenson stopped Ion Alexe, in the final bout of the Golden Belt Tournament ...
