IMO one of the best ever with no caveats... Pro, ammy...martian...I don't care. The guy was fantastic and would have been one of the best professionals for sure.
He checks all the boxes. His speed and finesse was that of a quick middle weight...His punch power and technique impeccable and his feet were fast.
People often think that the ammys is full of scrubs and that a guy like Stephenson should have been a robot defeating all...we do not work that way and there were some guys who bested him occasionally. Happens to everyone! But think it through...In the Amateurs there are no rounds to take off, no lapses allowed. You have very little time and have to adapt a strategy where you are hitting the other guy as many times and as accurately as possible.Comment

Woulda coulda. Great ability but it wasn't a guarantee for the pro's, we've seen countless cases of this. And I'm especially critical of cases where a guy sticks around the amateur system his whole career and turns into a primed adult beating up kids.Comment
