    Thinking logically in boxing

This is a little off topic but still relevant.

I'm on Quora and I'm seeing responses to boxing questions by people who are considered reputable. They are giving completely deluded responses. If you were a casual however, you would likely believe them word for word.

Being obsessed with boxing for 15 years I can see through the bull**** at this stage. But what about all the other things in life that we are being deluded by apparent educated individuals. What's even scarier is how we laugh at history and one day we will be laughed at all the same.

How much in the medical field is pure bull**** and how much is true. I'm not saying medical knowledge hasn't improved, but there could certainly be a huge portion of pure bull**** that is being taught to us in an educated tone while we sit with our mouths open taking it all in.

The same goes with the politics of our time.

That being said, while I often get called out for being biased towards oldschool fighters, those that have been around long enough know I was once a newschool nooby that was preaching the same **** I argue against with people today. Through knowledge I learned.

I used to think David Tua could beat Ali.

So when I see people throwing modern conditioning theories bull**** etc etc.. Been there done that, no replacement for displacement.

Yea go on there occasionially, really not the best site to go to for boxing or mot topics really seeing as it's just questions popping up on anyones page instead of just things they're interested in and anyone person with a keyboard can give their input. Can get some good stuff on there every now and then but Quora is best avoided for boxing ****, I'd stick to here or some other boxing forum.

This arguement is used alot in baseball. Although they lacked proper nutrition compared to today, lacked all the perks of 2day, ie: advanced scouting, private plans, no peds, dead old water logged baseballs, they still hit balls over 480 ft fences in center. You cant compare different generations. Although we have better tech and everything now these guys were generally tougher back then. Just like nba players now who wouldve been power fowards in 90s r now point guards. Everything was more physically back in day as opposed to 2day. All hypothetical sports ?s r the same for every sport. Guys r bigger with more information at their fingertips 2day but r more coddled and soft, mentally and physically, then in years past. Also, casuals in any sport are ignorant and cringe to listen to. Only sport i can c these ideas making sense 2 an extent is football.

I was kind of the same, although I do highly rate the 90's heavyweights 'But when I was in high-school, I did not really have the same respect for old school fighters as I do now'

I think there is a big difference between boxing fans, and most other sports fans 'You will find in individual sports, that the majority of fans are in some ways minor historians' and this is apparent in boxing.

Most people that follow sports, are not really experts in the history of the sport 'But I honestly believe that shallow culture exists more vividly in team-sports'.

Most team sports are for complete lemmings.

If something is repeated in the media often enough, it starts to take on a life of it's own and people begin to believe it. How often did I have to hear Ali shout he was the greatest every time he was in front of a mic? Eventually the self-anointed moniker stuck and we have had generations of fans who actually believe he was the greatest fighter who ever lived. We are experiencing a similar phenomenon with Mayweather and his TBE nonsense, so an entire generation of casuals now believe he is the greatest fighter whoever lived simply because he and his PR folks convinced them he is the best ever.

Most people are not free-thinkers or skeptics. They are sheep, following the herd. The shepherds are the biased media, networks and fighter's themselves.

Muhammad Ali existed before social media and the microwavable age 'So from my perspective, he earned the title of The Greatest'.

But you are 95% correct with your post.
