Weaver could hang tough with some of the best. I always felt like he fought to the level of his competition. Both men came to the sport relatively late.

Looks can be very deceptive. Looking at Marciano and Weaver one would never intuit that Rocky was the man who was put together with a complete blueprint, all the necessary polish and WD40 necessary to keep lubricated. Weaver, on the other hand, could never quite fit into a way. He was not quite a puncher boxer, not quite a brawler, certainly not a great puncher...

Marciano never went into the ring not knowing how he was going to win...I want to give credit here to Lefty's analysis of Weaver's Torpor. Two fighters, many similarities... Marciano would not lose to Weaver IMO. It does not even matter how he would beat Weaver. He would do what he needed to do to beat Weaver. for example, he might work inside, he might catch him with gazelle punches outside and not get into it inside. He might wear Weaver down... The point is, he would make the adjustments he needed to make.
weaver doesn't have the speed or the skillset to be dangerous to marciano. the only way to have a chance at beating the rock would be if you are a speed boxer like billy conn or a fast boxer-puncher like ezzard charles. if this is a stand and trade fight on the inside, the rock takes out weaver in 5. i have watched all of marciano's fights, he had great head movement and defense on the inside, the only way to hit him was on the outside, where he'd practically bump into your jab. this is how ezzard charles busted up his face and nearly ripped his nose clean off, with fast, technically perfect punches on the outside. lol, weaver, just doesn't have the skills. marciano would crumple his face and stretch him out on the canvas, i bet weaver's eyes would roll back into his head

      no doubt.

Rock stayed in so close you couldnt hit him, and he could hit you are hard with 67 reach and short ass arms. he had a huge advantage inside.

outside he just got even lower, crouching very low. he was smarter than he looked, just a function first style, nothing pretty. had a lot of tricks as well and very heavy hands.

Tha usa military story is true, Rocky was only 165 lbs and a youth at the time.
