  • What If Rematch: Floyd vs Conor in UFC?

    - -Toney the most prominent UFC/boxing crossover taken down seconds in to be mullered for the quick stoppage.

Could Floyd extend that precious minute of down time?

Fleeter of foot, blah, blah, blah...

    ?

Floyd wins again, probably another late stoppage or by UD. I believe some recent articles even have Conor asking for a Floyd rematch since he got beat again in the UFC.

I don't believe so. Human beings take for granted our fine motor movement. To take a basketball and put it through the net is something very few animals could do with training. A punch is one of those things. It has to be thrown, distance ajudicated, it has to land. If anything is off a minutia in the process it starts to lose power pofusely. So you know those punching machines in Vegas? You hit the thing as hard as you can and it rates your punch? If that bag could be moves an inch, you would lose a great deal of power, if the bag could be grazed, or was too close, by just a bit, you lose so much power.

A good grappler knows that a punch has to find its home. They know that if they can just move a bit the punch loses so much. hence they close to the grapple, and if they suffer the indignity of getting smashed in the mouth, it will be done as they are coming in, and they will be able to grab.

Grappling is the opposite. Most animals play grapple to train to fight. Grappling is tactile and does not require fine motor coordination. You can be blind and feel everything a puncher is doing if you maintain two points of contact...the floor and a grab perhaps. Grapplers do not need the precision of a punch and in a confined area can always bridge the gap with a puncher. So in a contest between a wrestler and a boxer, the boxer will always be taken down unless they know how to avoid being taken down.

Nope, Floyd would be mangled and he knows this. In fact, I don’t give any boxer a chance to beat Conor in the octagon. It’s a skill that requires years of dedicated training.

          - -Only reason I made the thread is because Floydy made some UFC noises about fighting.

Does McGregor even grapple all that much? I guess against Floyd he would and in the Octagon, I could see him going for the ground and pound TKO and probably getting it. But if Floyd survives the round, things start again on the feet, so Conor would have to be sure to close the distance at the beginning of every round.

Sigh. Is this what the once sacrosanct History section has come to?

                Talking UFC?

He does know how to grapple (especially against an amateur), however it's irrelevant if Floyd doesn't know how to respond to kicks and especially kicks that would chop down his legs.

Good point. Marco Ruas in his fight with Paul Varelans and Matt Hughes when he fought Renzo Gracie proved how leg kicks wear down a fighter. It's the equivalent of body punching in boxing. They can seriously slow an opponent down when it lands hard enough, accurately enough and enough times.
