Marciano because quarry would probably brawl with him instead of being patient and counter punching him. -
Quarry can make this one competitive down the stretch. I think Marciano is too persistent to be out-boxed by someone as soft-hitting as Quarry, and punches too tight from unique angles to be out-boxed by someone as limited as Quarry.
He does way better than anyone who actually fought Marciano. But I struggle to see him keep this fight from Marciano for enough rounds to win. Marciano was special.Comment

Yes. I can't see his faster hands not exploiting Marciano's punches. But not for long enough to win the fight. I think Quarry needs to box, and not commit too much to exchanges. Against Frazier Boxing wasn't an option. He had to settle into a shoot-out. Marciano doesn't have that size or power, he also doesn't crowd a Boxer the same way.
I really think Quarry makes this tough for the Rock. I wouldn;t be surprised if Marciano needs 2 or 3 fights to really prove himself the better man. which he is. slightly.Comment

So... one person to look at is Roland Starza, who gave Marciano problems... We all know about the first fight, a fight which many feel La Starza could have won, but even the second fight which was not close, did show that La Starza could trouble Marciano. Like Quarry Starza was not a big puncher, but a persistent pressure guy. Just for 5h1ts and giggles:
la Starza's stats: 66 fights 57 wins 27 by KO.
For Quarry: 66 fights 53 Wins 32 by KO
Very very similar stats above ...regarding chin? la Starza out of nine losses was Ko'ed twice and if memory serves right Chuvalo Koed Quarry.
Quarry fought much better comp and bigger punchers than Starza. he had a style which would trouble Marciano as well, we can see that from how Marciano dealt with La Starza.
With this in mind I would give this fight a little more possibility of being competative. Still the fight is Marciano's to lose, so to speak, Quarry, like La Starza could pressure and score but would have a problem hurting Marciano. We also have to consider that Jerry had whiskers and was hit by some of the best.
In a fifteen round contest Quarry gets beat in the championship rounds. Marciano's persistence pays off. In a twelve rounder it would be tougher for Marciano to start to dominate. I believe Jerry might even have a chance...Comment
