I had to come back to your thread one last time, Ray. I do not let go of my heroes easily. Though we sometimes argued, my respect for you was genuine. Some halfwits doubted you, but not me, sir, who always knew you were who you said you were. In truth, I loved you and I loved your character, and you taught me a lot that I would not have learned any other way. For instance, I now know, thanks to you, that in boxing a bum is not someone who does not fight very good but someone who does not try very good.
I have been awfully sick myself, that is why I have not been around to contribute more. You already said the truth: Be nice to each other, because you never know...
You lived long enough to see them ruin boxing, old stick. Personally, I may never watch another match again. Like all things--ourselves, our country, our loved ones and pets--boxing had its heyday, too, when it was vibrant, great to watch and you knew who the champion actually was. The list of things modern man has managed to ruin is a long one.
The profit makers do not care about us. In fact, they will sell us RoundUp for a profit. They know very well that it kills people and causes great damage to the human organism, but they believe profit is better than our health. Therefore boxing is just one more casualty. They will take it all. They are already taking it all. Slavery has and will continue to make a comeback under a new deceptive name: Working man. They have a drain on our dollars and cents, taxes, sur charges, sur taxes--and by golly, they can make up other words, too. Look for them soon.
The problem is not some individual politician, but simple capitalism combined with simple humanity. Currently, tyrants have tools that past tyrants actually did not even dream of because they didn't know how to have those dreams. You do not even have to be in office anymore to become a big time tyrant.
As I said before, I believe there is an afterlife. The reasons are long and complex and I do poorly at explaining.
What we call our universe has been around about this long; 5,000,500,000,000 days, give or take a month of Sundays, of course. Our national debt in dollars is 4 X that amount. Though 5 trillion is lot of days for sure, is it really enough to produce what we find ourselves in and conscious of? Is it really a universe which is neutral and only randomness is at work to cause it all? In a neutral universe nothing in fact could happen. For what has apparently happened to happen the deck has to have been arranged ahead of time--a fixed deck, yes.
In some other type of entity now lives the consciousness of Raymond Corso. You may live inside the sun now. I believe the universe is full of life and we only recognize one kind so far. The universe itself IS life, it IS conscious in some way we cannot fathom. I subscribe to the mythology of no religion. I believe in consciousness, a sentient universe.
I so hope things are good now. I so hope for you (and ourselves) there is a now for Raymond Corso. If not, kid, you still have the now of us, and we ain't dead yet, son. So long, my dear boy.

I happen to agree with you about "things." My two favorite systems that I studied were Ancient India and the Australian Aborigines. Ancient Indian beliefs when in Kashmir became exposed to Sufiism, and the eventual cross pollination gave us the Sikh religion... another great warrior culture. Anyhow, Kashmir Shiva worship believed that the divine union of Shiva and Shakti produced "Spanda" which was consciousness... a divine light animating the universe and all individual parts of the universe, like us.
The Aborigines had a whole other reality they lived in dream time. The tie in to both worlds was the totem group, physical place they were brought into and taboo, those other groups they had to avoid for certain processes. So if you were a "crab" you could not eat crabs, you could marry certain other groups, and could not marry others... These distinctions also existed in dream time, so these people lived in both worlds anchored by one seminal idea.

By sneezy, Billy, it is probably not necessary for me to say that you are one of my favorites here as well.
The variety of religious belief has always amazed me. Fascinated is a better word, because two people (or peoples) who lived in different parts of the globe in different epochs could hardly be expected to write identical novels, so to speak, sir.
Some of the numbers given in Bahavagad Gita and other places always stunned me. I did not know what to think of them, and still do not have a firm conviction. They seem to say some things occurred maybe a thousand Big ****s ago, or even more. They speak of trillions of years yet our scientific evidence tells us this particular universe (or version of it) is only 13.7 billion years old.
If you have one, lad, what is your interpretation of that business with the humongous numbers? Was it merely ancient man trying out a shocking metaphor for "A long, long, long, long time ago," the way we begin a story with Once Upon A Time, or is there something more to it? What do you think?
I hadn't known your specialty was this stuff, or I probably would have hammered you with such questions...oh, about 49 trillion years ago, son. Anyway...Last edited by The Old LefHook; 07-28-2019, 12:52 AM.

Keep something in mind. To many cultures, including India (Metakapules sp?) there are epochs that start and finish. Our Universe is one of those epochs, so whenever we "started" there was a universe before, and will be one in perpetuaty. The most accurate system for aligning epoch blocks of time with history would have to be the Mayan system. It is very accurate with respect to dating the beginning and end times. Any way that you slice it we don't really have a correlation to place that is scientifically accurate. One that stands up to consistency regarding physical proof, historical proof, and a paradigm explaining correlation.
Take the theory of evolution which should tell us about our species. It is a great theory, seldom completely understood, and has many problems describing how we got here. The jump between hominids and **** sapiens, on up to present man makes no sense. There is no way we could accelorate to the level we are in that amount of time. So I always ask if we are from this planet? Most of the epic cultures speak of travels, other beings interceding, etc. I think there is something to this. Also if you look at all the pyrmid cultures, there are always beings with elongated skulls and the notion that all of these are from artificial enhancement is nonsense. It actually looks like these skull types were aristocracy in Egypt for example.
So from my studies, including graduate work at University of Toronto, I cannot really see a correlation that correctly places us in a time and place of origin on this planet. Not saying we necessarily came from somewhere else...Just cant find proof that we came from here.
The other thing to keep in mind is how silly some of our academic theories are. For example, how would man develop in different parts of the world at the same basic times? That idea would make any theory of evolution irrelevant. We are supposed to be shaped by the environment weaning out traits...And no two environments are exactly the same... hence we have diversity. Hammerhead Sharks and pug nosed dogs obviously came about in an environment with a lot of frying pans to the face (lol)...collies snouts were left to grow.
So man must have developed in some inchoate way, somewhere on this planet, hence we have the search for origination and Africa is so designated. Again, we have no proof that man started in one place...and the notion that he developed in many places is ridiculous, hence the idea that we may have come from elsewhere. We are so different than other species on this planet as well. Maybe we are martians.

As I got older and looked into it I was taught a lesson... We never see the smart people. I was with my youngest yesterday... both my boys think I am nuts on conspiracy ideas, one of them is in Military Intelligence and is moving up, so I told him "you will see your dad was right"Of course he will not be able to tell me I was right but maybe we can keep in binary yes/no kind of thing. Anyway as we are driving we see a new car and a car from the 80's or so...
I tell my youngest, "come on son" what do you see" (pointing to the new car). Finally he smirked a bit and I knew I had him. The new car looked like a space craft saucer design. I mean the curves, and everythng computer controlled, etc. The two vehicles were totally different.
The other thing is animals. I no longer think people that have wild animals as pets are nuts. I have seen what I consider a miracle where people have Komono Dragons!! the most cold blooded predator imaginable! And this Dragon was affectionate as a puppy. I have seen it with gators, crocs, a whole pack of lions. It was transformative for me to watch as a skinny man approached a pack of growling lions, proceeds to jump in the middle...the next thing you hear is grunts and growls and laughter. These lions had been raised by the man, they not only accepted him but knew when playing to not be as rough, and they loved him. And the squirrel that was abandoned and every vet said let it die, not to raise it with a cat litter because it would get torn up...That squirrel is a happy adult cat as we speak.
If God didn't exist, how did the Pughs get flattened? I didn't use a frying pan, did you? lol.
