Ah, good old Cleveland "The Steamer" Williams.

The definition of poetry in motion.

I know Ali didn’t face Liston, Frazier, Norton or Foreman that night, but he sure looked as an unbeatable fighting machine in its zenith.

--- Never begrudged Ali giving gutshot Cleve a good retirement fight.

HOWEVER, what got buried was Cleve's manager and promoter grabbed most of his purse.

Cleve died tragically as a pedestrian mowed down by a car, perhaps an apt metaphor for this fight.

But damn, he was ripped for this fight...R.I.P...

That was Ali at his best. Then, after 3 1/2 years of walking around, all the strength in his legs disappeared. How, I'll never know.

--- Where in Texas have you been sentenced?

As to Ali, I suggest he matured his strength and confidence in his 3 yr ban and adopted his sparring style of laying on the ropes that he first officially displayed in the first Frazier fight.

Ali did seem to go to the body in this fight more than usual.

Ali at peak but not so much Williams with a cop's .357 still lodged in him somewhere. Williams would be too slow at his best though and just dangerous enough of a puncher for Ali not to be fooling around with.
