Cooney gets a lot of criticism (mainly for the hype), but he was a talent. Foreman and Holmes both praised him, said he was one of the hardest punchers they fought. Holmes even said in an interview that Cooney could have been a champ, but they pushed him too early.

    Who wins Morrison vs. Cooney?
I tend to think Cooney is a grade above Morrison. Morrison never made the real adjustments necessary to evolve past a certain point. Cooney was dangerous. Its just that when I try to figure out "why" I can only figure it was in the cards.

I look at Morrison a lot like Nando, Fernando Vargas... Both guys were brought along right, were obviously talented, had a path to greatness, just never really arrived. Cooney was not a great fighter and was not so carefully managed. But he had an instinct for using that hook. Just an interesting aside lol.

Mike Tyson would win, but Morrison was tougher than people give him credit for 'Impressive the way he kept on getting up vs Lennox Lewis and? He did survive Razor Ruddock's power to win etc

Perhaps when it was time to show his best his came up short, as most fighters do... which is why there are so few great fighters, but he was hardly a hype job.
As far as his ability to fight head to head with Tyson I do believe what most have said on the thread: tommy was hittable and Tyson was not really susceptible to a hooker.
I would pick Mike to win by TKO in 3rd, 4th at the latest. In his prime he had that exceptional speed, great defence, and power in both hands, Tommy was good (with a great left hook, not so great stamina) but hittable.

If Morrison had his head on straight leading up to the fight; hadn't been in bed with numerous hookers the day before, and fought Tyson like he fought Foreman, and landed a clean left hook early on....he'd get to the 3rd or 4th round before he'd be KTFO.

Unless Tyson didn't have his head on straight leading up to the fight, had been in bed with numerous hookers the day before, and fought Morrison like he fought Douglas and took the clean left hook early on...he'd STILL KTFO of Morrison before the 5th round.

It's the chin, people, the chin that determines Tommy's fate; it always did.

Morrison had ability, but too many weaknesses. Limited Stamina ( Because he didn't;t train hard or do road work ) His chin and ADIS Virus did not help. Outside of a puncher chance's, which he always has, I think Tyson win inside 4 rounds.
