  • Who could have beaten Ricardo Lopez?

Was there any fighter in any era of the Strawweight/Light Flyweight/Flyweight division who could have beaten Finito?

As great as he looks on video I think there's a handful of top tier fighters around his weight that could have solved his style. Lopez was not as perfect of a fighter that everyone claims.

I think Roman Gonzalez has the style to beat Lopez IMO.

Benny Lynch, Mark Johnson, Pancho Villa and Miguel Canto come to mind as some of the better fighters from flyweight. Besides what I've read about them I'm not very acquainted with their opposition though. Lopez was not unbeatable. Didn't watch a whole ton of him, but remember his fights with Rosando Alverez well. I think that is the first bit of evidence proving he wasn't unbeatable.

      You sound kind of ignorant.

You admit you have not seen much of him..
And you use a fight from the end of his career as evidence for your your assertion....

Ali lost to Berbick. Therefore Ali is a bum.
      (see what i did there)

I'm sorry, does it not prove he was beatable? He was a great tactician, but there have been many. Are you saying it's out of the realm of possibility he loses to other great fighters, because that is all I was saying. And anyone who thinks ANY fighter is unbeatable is a moron.

          I agree.
I didn't realise you were being literal.
Is this even a point that needs to be made?

I do however find it odd that to prove your point that no-one is invincible you pick a minimumweight. then name a bunch of flyweights and use a fight from when he was on the slide as evidence.

How much of a slide could he have been on? He was still ranked in the top 10 p4p and was still the best fighter in the division.

First of all I just have to say Rosendo was a very good fighter.
Had a misleading style. He's better than he looks.

Watch some prime Finito and you will see the guy had amazing
              timing/reflexes.
By the time he was fighting a young prime Rosendo, Finito
had 47 fights. He wasn't the same.

His fights with Rosendo were the last he had in the division.

Fighting Harada, Jung Koo Chang MAYBE because they were good crowders.
But, Finito was a freaking master boxer .

I disagree with Lopez not being the same fighter when he fought Alvarez. Before Alvarez he was coming off a nice performance when he wiped out Alex Sanchez. He was only 31 and took very little damage in his 47 fights when he faced Alvarez so he was still the same fighter as ever.

He also stayed in the top ten p4p list until he retired for good.
