Tarver and Johnson only beat the vapor of light heavyweight great Jones. That should never be forgotten.

RJJ was undoubtedly one of the ATG LHWs.

However, IMO, he did not have a HW chin--witness not only his one-punch KOs against Tarver & Johnson but also his KO losses to the likes of Cruiserweights Green, Lebedev & Maccirinelli.

Therefore, I don't see him surviving more than a few rounds against Joe Louis who would hurt him wherever he hit him--on the arms, shoulders, etc.--and slow him down enabling the one-punch KO blow to come sooner rather than later..

LOL.....when Louis landed his right hand, Jones would go down and hard....for a 10 count or maybe a 130 count. In either case, Louis by KO. Jones would only be competitive against Louis because of his speed.

louis is a bad fight for RJJ, he's not as fast as conn when it comes to footwork, and the size difference between him and louis would cause Roy all kinds of problems. i think Jones might win the first 6 rounds by using his handspeed and then running, but as he starts to get tired and slow down louis starts to reach him with those big long arms. because it would be 15 rounds instead of 12 is another reason i don't see Roy winning, any mental lapse within that 15 rounds means louis would trap him somewhere and unload a big combination. if i remember, louis one punched conn and knocked him out cold. louis was one of the greatest finishers once he got his opponent hurt. if lou del valle was able to catch and drop a near the end of his prime roy, i don't see how he can make it through 15 rounds with the man i consider to be the greatest hw champion of all time

RJJ at heavy and LHW for that matter, was bigger than Billy Conn and had a similar style. We all saw the trouble that Conn's movement gave to Louis. So let's say that the Jones who beat Ruiz replaced Billy Conn vs Joe Louis. How does this match up go?

lol hes not bigger than Billy Conn. give Conn roids then. Jones is a small framed 5 ft 10, hes looking over muscled even at 175. Jones essentially has to fight a perfect fight.

and if this was the fight of the century Louis stops him cold inside 4. Conn was just another bum Louis figured, the man was beating everyone at the time and partying in between. See the difference between Schmeling 1 and 2.

Conn weighed in the 160's, at least sometimes, for his fights at LHW. Granted, I didn't account for the super middle division not existing during Conn's time. But at HW, Jones was 193 pounds I think while Conn vs Louis was at most 174, some sources say he may have even been 168 or 169. So Jones would have been bigger at HW but with the same or approximate skill level as Conn. I think Louis would KO Jones, eventually, but Jones may have his moments.
