    Marciano/Valuev

Shortest reach versus longest reach here.

The reach disparity may intimidate Rocky and have him shaking in his boots. He may refuse to climb through the ropes once he sees the club fisted giant.

Nicky is too big for the diminutive dago. For Marciano it will be like punching a cape buffalo in the ribs. This is no Popeye cartoon--links of steaks and chops will not descend as if arranged in a butcher's window for sale.

Nicky can concentrate his firepower on the top of Marciano's noggin, driving Rocky into and through the canvas like a railroad spike. Rocky cannot reach Nicky's head. Once Nicky nails him to a stationary place we'll see how much he can take.

Bit like Jason & the Argonauts

Marciano would have to unscrew that plug out of his heel

Marciano is terribly overrated but I would pick him to chop down the big, lumbering oaf.

A few might favor Valuev. Marciano can only reach the giant's body. Throwing at his chin would be like aiming for the top of a doorway. Meanwhile, the Russian's fall-step jab might blast him through several concrete walls.

Marciano enjoys mythical status as a puncher. It is mostly myth. He was a little, weasely coward who hit Joe Louis. Anyone who would attack an old man deserves no sympathy. He was always looking for an old man to beat up, and usually found them. Ancient Joe Walcott was another one. Then there was Archie Moore. But ol' Rocky never could find him an octogenarian to fight, though he was ever on the lookout.

Against a prime Valuev, Marciano's punches will have no more effect than if he were punching a rhino in the ribs. You have to figure someone who attacks old men is a coward anyway. Joe Louis was a popular man, besides. A lot of people would have run to his aid if they had understood what was happening. Okay, what was happening? Hmmmm, you see.

Marciano will turn into a stammering Lou Costello once he witnesses Valuev make his grand entrance and feels the floor shake. But he's still apt to cop a Sunday on any senior citizen in range out of pure habit.

Fighting well in a crouch will cause a seven foot opponent to need to bend down in order to strike. Bending lower allows the smaller man to reach the larger opponents chin. Marciano would stop the slow moving giant probably within 6-8 rounds. Marciano if anything is UNDERRATED today not overrated. He is thought of as a low skilled fighter but nothing could be further from the truth. As with all fighters over time ability and accomplishments are diminished as those who can attest to abilities die off.

Yeah and plus Marciano would hit Valuev in the body and arms also to get him to lower his guard and crouch down to him, leading to hard shots to the chin. Marciano would have a chance here.

I recall Ed "Too Tall" Jones who was about 6'9" quitting football to become a pro boxer. He has a short lived career, less than ten fights, and then went back to football. He remained undefeated against very marginal opponents. Notice his style--resembles a certain HW champion of today.

Good clip here, Gil Clancy commentary at ringside and a brief interview with Archie Moore.

David Haye almost knocked Valuev out, an old Holyfield was robbed of a win, and Chagaev boxed his ears off.

Not even trying to hide your racism I see. Not surprising considering you're probably the worst poster in this section. But then again this forum is pretty trash.
