Marciano fought very weak opposition, his best win is old Joe Louis. It is hard to say how good Marciano realy was, Frazier clearly fought much more though opposition.

      I can't argue with that.

"Marciano fought very weak opposition, his best win is old Joe Louis"....................................really!

          Roland LaStarza
          Rex Layne
          Joe Louis
          Joe Walcott (2)
          Ezzard Charles
          Don ****ell
          Archie Moore

These were competitive men who had very good skills.
Louis was passed his prime of course but is an ATG along with Charles and Moore.
Moore had 20 wins with 1 draw at heavyweight earning the title shot.
Louis returned in 1950 and after a loss to Charles went 10-0 to get his shot.

The early fifties up to 1960 was not a strong era but Marciano fought the top contenders and that's all he can do. He was an exciting fighter who looked for the KO when he fought.
He was an extremely popular champion.

            1. Marciano fought Louis for Joe's last fight. Joe was clearly toast. That's like saying Leon Spinks gets credit for beating a shot Ali.

            2. Ezzard chalres was a blown-up Middleweight and had been pro for 14 years. Clearly Chalres was shot to ribbons and way out of his normal weight class. He retired not long after that fight.

            3. Jersey Joe was pro for 23 years when he fought Marciano, 23 YEARS!!! And to boot, it was his last two fights.

            4. Archie fought Marciano after 176 fights and was pro for 20 years!!! Moore started out at 135 for fùcks sake.

How you going to sit there and act like those guys were threats?

Rocky was pro for 8 years and quit after getting dropped by a 40 year-old man with close to 200 fights that started at 135 twenty years back. Honestly, the whole Marciano thing is a joke.

One big disadvantage Joe had was that he was legally blind in his left eye. That is why Eddie Futch stopped the Thrilla in Manilla when Joe's right eye was closed by Ali which meant Joe was unable to see Ali's punches coming.

Accordingly, I think Marciano's right hand delivered from his crouching style would "blind side" Joe and knock him out within five (5) rounds.

My point was that Marciano fought the men that EARNED the shot, can't you read? I'm not justifying a thing other than the earned the spot!

Ezzard Charles is a top five light heavy all time don't you know that? Back in that era light heavy champs challenged heavy weights.
Moore started out at 135 what the hell does that mean?
Mayweather started out at 112lbs in the amateurs and 130 as a pro. People grow!!!!

He didn't quit he retired, why not read some facts about why he retired instead of insinuating the man was a coward. I'm sick of you kids calling professional fighters cowards the man would break you in half!

Whats next he was afraid of Liston and Paterson? Liston didn't even crack into 10 rounders and Paterson wasn't going any where near Marciano.

He fought the top- contenders to his title those are the facts. You can't pick what era your born in at least he came to fight compared to current day slackers.

Reading is good for you it helps you not sound like a BS'er!

That is true. The Klitschko fans make the same argument and they have a point.

But when we are trying to judge all-time greatness the quality of opposition has to be brought into play.

wait - was it the blindness or the eye closed? they are separate.

Short answer Joe Frazier. Faster, stronger, more powerful and more skilled.
