In India it is the Tantrists, who defile the table every Friday, and the Aghoras, Crowley and the Theosophists, and of course the ***ish Mystic Kabbalah has some aspects as well. You sin to show that even the darkest is part of God's love... Mother Maya is beautiful as Shakti, the consort of Shiva and as a monsterous looking eight armed ma ma sita! The Aghoras eat out of skulls in the graveyard.

Yep, the left hand path.
I was reading some time back about witchcraft among the Navajo and the rituals involved altering traditional ceremonies in some dark way. Necrophilia and cannibalism were some of the practices said to be involved, as well as pedophilia.
Basically anything that corrupted or soiled wholesome things was thought to bring power.
It's easy to understand why normal societies across the world have feared and persecuted witches, if these are the kinds of things they are up to.Comment

Like so many things in life...the left handed path is not always evil, or unwholesome. If you took your friend the martian on a tour of the planet and he asked you certain special qualities about different regions of the earth, you might say things like "ah yes the French, known for very fine cooking along with their Italian neighbors", etc.
INdia would be the people, the region that have the most complete all encompassing religious institutions that you would show your friend... From her fertile soils came the Vedas, Jainism, Buddhism, and prior to Brahmanism, prior to the Buddha in India's bosom, came the Kashmir experience...a fertile piece of land that developed mystical Islam (suffism) Sikhism ( a wonderful religion with aspects of Hinduism, warrior culture and mystical Islam, and... the Tantra.
The Tantra was the encompassing of both the illusionary aspects of Sankara's non dual Vedantism and Romanija's dual nature of phenominal reality having truth...it held the belief that all aspects of the diety were true and real and that all aspects had to be in some sense venerated, to show an unconditional love for the phenominal aspects of reality.
This is how the left handed path of the Aghora, of kashmir Shiavism started. Phenominal reality was the district of the female Mother Maya...and to show unconditional pure love for Shiva and Shakti (the male female dichotomy) was to love the capricious, passionate and often even cruel moods of mother maya along with her more gracious phenominal aspects... That was the origin of the left handed path in that region.
It was never designed to harm, but...it was never the less a very dangerous path because one was to burn away Karma (the image being the body burned at the smashen, the funeral pyre) and show the ability to accept all manifestations of phenominal reality vis a vis the goddess. So while many dark practices involving sacrifice and dominion over others... the Aghora's path is to show unconditional love, an acceptance of even the most terrible aspects of the goddess with no distinctions between what is pretty, ugly, dark light, etc. In so doing one embraced the totality of phenominal reality and gained tremendous power, the blessing of the goddess and one could abscond from the cycle of rebirth, samsara that chains and imprisons us.Comment
