NO! If the ref would have picked up the count from the timekeeper (he didn't) Douglas would have still been able to get up in time. As it was he picked up the referees (like every fighter is trained to do) count and got up.

Whatever the pace, the referee's count is the one that matters. Douglas picked up the ref's count and got up at nine, Tyson didn't get up soon enough. Tyson lost, deal with it. He has.

If you want to talk about a crappy referee job, take a look at Ali-Liston 2 sometime. Jersey Joe Walcott never even counted because he couldn't get Ali to a neutral corner when Liston was down. Then he let the fight resume and immediately goes over to the timekeeper's table to be told that Liston was down for more than 10 seconds, resulting in Walcott awarding Ali a KO victory. Now THAT was some bad refereeing. Since Walcott never counted to 10, it can't be a KO. A TKO maybe, but not a KO, unless someone is out cold and the ref doesn't even bother to count, which sometimes happens.

It really all comes down to the ref you officially don't have to be up in 10 seconds. Just before the ref counts to 10 he can count fast or slow long as ur up before he finishes.

If the ref gave Tyson 13 seconds like he claims Buster got, he still wouldnt have been able to continue. He was totally out on his feet. But I guess the question still goes back to whether the fight should have been stopped in the 8th. In my opinion the count may have been slow, but it was at an even pace and Buster picket up on the rhythm and got up in time, and clearly he was able to continue

Sto-piss! He did not beat a normal count begun the second he fell. The count was delayed because of Tyson's actions. My question is whether Buster could have beaten an undelayed count.
