Considering he got on the inside against 49 fighters during his career I am positive he has a strategy to make up for the lack of a jab.

Theres a BIG trajectory differance between MMA gloves and even 5 oz boxing gloves ,not just the weight but the damage smaller more compact and harder material does to the skin.

Those gloves from olden day boxing were tiny. The actual padding would get pushed to the sides in a fight and they would be exchanging with knuckles covered by leather.

I think that Larry would have been champ in any era or at the very least a top top contender.

Larry Holmes in his prime head to head, had the technical ability and hand speed to cause any heavyweight trouble! and he was a tough guy, very few heavyweight's where ****ing him out with one shot! even up against Mike Tyson, he was trying to get up as the referee sat on his chest.

I rank him above Rocky Marciano, because of his skill set and range of styles and fighters he faced. Even his win against Ray Mercer is a underrated win. Also his effort against Holyfield! all of these performances that are overlooked, for me prove how technically gifted he was as a fighter!

Larry Holmes is the type of fighter, that could produce a good performance out of shape! you can only do this when you are gifted! guys like Rocky Marciano had to be in 100% physiological condition otherwise? he was stuffed.

I don't think most boxing people overlook Holmes' performances in any way. It seems to me that he usually makes the top 5 list of all time greatest heavies -- whereas Marciano usually does not. (I'm not sure that he should.) But I do think HIS skills and performances are often underrated, including by boxing people. He beat some extremely skilled and game fighters (Charles in two fights, Moore, Walcott in the first fight especially)....they just tended to be on the small side, like himself.

I always compared Rocky Marciano to Carl Froch, because this are two fighters that where stereotyped crude fighters (More so Marciano!). But there is obviously something from a technical perspective, that they do which makes them awkward! otherwise you don't beat the fighters they did (And this may not be apparent perceptually unless you get inside the boxing ring with them!) But overall i just feel like Larry Holmes was too big, and fast for Marciano! I think Marciano came along at the right time, and the landscape of the heavyweight division suited his style!
