Ali could punch. Soft blows don’t break apart/swell facial features as did Ali’s punches. He was no Louis certainly but his blows could do damage. Look at that first right hand against Lyle in round 11. That was not a soft punch.

If you want to include well-known journeymen, ones who could go the distance but do little damage:

Garing Lane had a 20% KO avg, and a 22-39 record.
Melvin Epps was a sad 8% in ko, an 14-24.

People most definitely didn't fear Marvis Frazier or Buster Mathis Jr. either.

Sticking Ali on the list is ridiculous. His KO percentage was pretty good and look at Joe Frazier's lumped up face in the THRILLA, or the downward position of Foreman. Weak punchers don't leave marks on their opponents and also don't fell giants.
