I think his point was that Shavers didn't beat too many good fighters and built his KOs against mostly low level journeymen and smaller fighters moving up, not that he never fought anyone good in the first place.

If he was Elroy he would have said something completely left field like everyone who fought Shavers took bribes to claim good things about his punching power, or Norton took a dive or somesuch.

We will know soon enough. I don't have to be right, and have no problem apologizing if I am wrong, but there is no way Elroy gets a pass on maning up. It took too long to expose him...I get no joy out of having to confront trolls, I would rather argur boxing.

My point about Shavers is that competition, unless it is really really unprofessional usually has no baring on how hard one hits. If one wants to say Vlad is among the hardest hitters, for example, we don't look at his competition, nor should we. An even better example is Vitalie. Vitalie fought horrendous comp but deserves mention as a KO puncher.

Now heres the thing: if you turn around and eliminate shavers based in his comp, it becomes really absurd when considering there is nothing that stands out as particularly bad when comparing him to others...and I am not even commenting on Shavers competition which imo is not bad.

              I'm afraid so!

It's a pity, as he was very knowledgeable and posted with great humour. I miss him!

I agree with a lot of the stuff posted by Elroy (call me mad, lol), and i like the famous controversial "Heavyweight Blog", lots of good work and stats are there for everyone to see, no twisting or such things... Everything regarding boxing is extremely biased towards past and american fighters, it's fairly evident... Having said that, there are also things that i don't agree with coming from Elroy/HW blog, i think that we need balance, past fighters are not all bums and modern boxers all mythical, but if you go on famous forums, youtube, read articles from "boxing hystorians", the contrary seems true, today it's the worst era and blah blah blah... It's ****** and this kind of reasoning brainwashed a lot of modern boxing fans, but we have internet/youtube now with entire bouts from the past, no bull****s anymore... I hope i've been clear enough, as i said, Shavers didn't have bad competition, just that his real ko effectiveness and punching prowess is extremely overrated, manly based on stories of opponents who did beat him... From the same era, he's nowhere near George Foreman as a puncher, in my opinion...
