Michael Carbajal: The best of the best little men

This is a Michael Carbajal appreciation thread. Where do yall think his stance is all time at flyweight. He is a hall of famer, but do yall think like me and think he is the best flyweight ever or at the very least top 2 or 3? Man this little dude was mean, vicious and a very good boxer and a great puncher for a little man. Its rare to have guys in the 115 pound range be able to put someone to sleep. My memories of Carbajal go back to his Olympic days '88 when IMO was the last great American amateur team. He truly had hands of stone and had tons of killer instinct. His fights with chaquita gonzalez are some of the best fights ever and his KO of Gonzalez in their first fight was a memory ill never forget. His enthusiasm after dropping him was incredible.

To me Carbajal is the giant among flyweights. What do you guys think of him.

    Hall of famer

    Fan friendly

    Great little warrior..

    Some great fights and wins

But I don't think he is top 2 or 3 all time..

Would have loved to seen him fight ricardo lopez, that would have really given us a clear perspective on both guys..

One of my favorites of the 90s

If you don't think he is 2 or 3 all time flyweight then who is above him thats better at flyweight. At the least he is 3 but regardless hands down top 5 flyweight of all time.

IMO I think if Ricardo lopez would have moved up to flyweight, it would have been a tremendous fight. It would have definitely been a trilogy type series between them with both fighters winning each fight then Carbajal taking the third. Carbajal in his prime was a machine and the only way to beat him is to have tremendous boxing skills and good feet movement, and if you were better than him in that category he had his heart and determination to make up for it.

In his three fights with Chiquita Gonzalez, Chiquita won 2 and 3 because he got on his bike and ran and pot shotted him all night. The moment he ever stopped and traded with him he was getting straight up rock. But Chiquita IMO is one of the other top 3 greats in the flyweight division. So there trilogy has so much significants.

Carbajal KOed him in there first fight. But Chiquita took tht 2nd and 3rd fight. When they fought in Mexico City Chiquita's home city for the third and final time during tht fight they were booing chiquita because he was on his bike so much and didn't want to exchange with carbajal. Mexican fans want to see your heart in the ring and go for it and when Chiquita got on his bike and pot shotted all night they were booing him. They even booed Chiquita after they gave him the decision because they weren't pleased with the way he won.

Carbajal was a brutal puncher. Probably one of the hardest ever at that weight. Several of his opponents spoke of his tremendous power.

Best flyweight??? He was a light flyweight..

And you could make a case for
              Lopez
              Gonzalez
              Zapata
Hell even roman Gonzalez is creeping up on him..

Carbajal was very fan friendly but most of his wins were vs journeymen

My bad jr flyweight. Boxingscene's staff writers got together and made a list for the best jr flyweights of all time and they ranked carbajal 3rd all time jr flyweight.

Most of his wins were vs journeyman? Obviously you didn't watch boxing back then or just didn't follow him. Did you know when he was champ he always and I mean always fought and requested the #1 ranked contender every time out. Plus he retired a champion after beating Jorge Arce after being away for almost a two year stretch.

                  Lmao...

                  I watched carbajal's entire career...

Name his best 10 opponents faced, then compare vs guys like barrera, darchiyan, marquez..

Like most guys below bantam, he has a few good names and then the rest are nobodies..

Name his top 10 fights, then name his 10 best wins,,,, his resume is really shallow, like most sub-bantam guys ie lopez, roman Gonzalez, etc..

So you expecting to see his resume and recognize every name he fought. Guess what, below featherweight nobody knows the up and comers and contenders because its a seldom follow weight class. Especially the up and comers and contenders from twenty plus years ago. But just because you don't recognize them doesn't make them journeyman. But it's fact when carbajal was champion he always requested and took on the #1 contender everytime out if not a former champion. That's fact. Plus he was the lineal champ at jr flyweight. He fought and defeated 10 current(at the time) or former champions. You can say he wasn't as great as he was but among all boxing writers and historians carbajal is consistently rank in the top 3 of all time jr flyweights and that's fact.
