What is missing here is Don King was the worlds "Greatest Hustler".. King would promise a fighter he would get a purse of $10 million. That fighter would be promised by a rival promoter, he would be paid $3 million. The fighter would then go and fight for Don King. But King would actually only pay the fighter $4 million not the promised $10 million. The fighter would then accuse Don King of Robbing him. Yes there are instances like Tyson & Witherspoon etc. But other promoters like Bob Arum, Cedric Cushner, Frank Warren and many others have had to "Cough up" what they owed fighters. What Don King done is not my business. What i am saying is, "Don King was the Greatest Promoter in History and Fans never had it as good"..we only have to watch any big fight card to see this.

I am not above admitting somethihg like this but don't you think it had something todo with the amount of talent in the sport?

King has a colorful history as a numbers crimelord who managed to avoid being blown up, which was the local custom in cleveland at that time. King is a predator and yes he is very smart....He alone survived the blow up derby in cleveland. But his crime and survival comes at the expense of others and he has destroyed the lives of fighters he should have been helping.

exactly. I can deal with criminals but King was as Tyson said "a reptilian mf." I grew up as a kid in East Harlem and I had a job in junior high school getting up at 4am and selling papers in the morning. Just down the street from me was the major numbers runner for my hood and he took a liking to me, really cool guy who taught me how to survive...he also made it very clear that if he saw someone even look at me cross eyed from his store they would have a really bad day! haha long story short I learned a lot about the numbers game, dude taught me how to carry money, weapons....taught me to develop my memory (yu never wrote numbers down because that was evidence to the cops).

My point here is that it takes a lot of intelligence to do what King did with the numbers and bigger fish are always out on the prowl if they see you are making large! King thrived....he avoided hits, the whole nine yards. Cleveland at that time was a real hard scrabble place to ply that trade. The way they hit you was to blow you the fvc up! And the top guy was a real "mack the knife." So yeah King was quite smart and gifted as a predator. Unfortunately he looked at fighters as fair game and he had no qualms about destroying them and this as you say is truly reprehensible, not to mention cynical and disrespectful. fvc King and Arum for that matter....Arum came at it from a legal perspective and is just as evil.

i can think of no Boxing promoter who has not committed crime, Arum, Warren, Rickard all committed crimes. King is no different, has he committed crimes against me? ..No. Lets get real here, some are talking on this subject as if Don King has "Robbed them and their mother"..We have all read the books on King, we have all watched the Documentaries on Don King. What i am saying is, "Don King put on the greatest boxing shows ever" for fight-fans. Did he rip me off like all today's promoters do?... NO
