Wasn't it Don King that rode with Forman to the fight against Ali and rode from the fight in Ali's limo? Con artists are often shrewd business men.

what a snake. King had the success he did because of his background in crime, he was street smart, knew how to exploit people, and had no moral qualms about doing it. This coupled with the loose structure of boxing meant he acquired his power pretty quickly and easily. King killed two men as a ******** house owner before he became a promoter and invoked the fifth ********* when questioned about his connections to John Gotti. In no other sport could such an obvious criminal come to prominence.
I read that these days, after going broke and rebuilding himself, mike tyson is worth about $ 1 million. King is worth $150 million. What a disgrace.
I also read he allegedly put a hit on meldrick taylor, and threatened to get larry holmes' legs broken. Like i said only in boxingLast edited by Suckmedry; 02-23-2015, 02:19 AM.

What is missing here is Don King was the worlds "Greatest Hustler".. King would promise a fighter he would get a purse of $10 million. That fighter would be promised by a rival promoter, he would be paid $3 million. The fighter would then go and fight for Don King. But King would actually only pay the fighter $4 million not the promised $10 million. The fighter would then accuse Don King of Robbing him. Yes there are instances like Tyson & Witherspoon etc. But other promoters like Bob Arum, Cedric Cushner, Frank Warren and many others have had to "Cough up" what they owed fighters. What Don King done is not my business. What i am saying is, "Don King was the Greatest Promoter in History and Fans never had it as good"..we only have to watch any big fight card to see this.

When the final bell rang, he could run into the ring and celebrate with Foreman.
When Ali fought Holmes, I think Ali's purse was somewhere around 12 million or something, Larry's was 2 million - and he was the guy who was signed to King. Anyway, King had a hard time coming up with the last million for Ali and knowing how Ali was careless - to say the least - with money, King offered him 20k cash or somewhere around that amount, and Ali accepted.
By that time, Ali had waisted all of his money on his massive entourage who would hustle him every chance they got. Ali had finally gotten himself together and let some white ***ish people handle his money, to the dismay of many of the ******s in his team - and obviously they were furious.
King didn't give a monkeys. He got Ali another fight as if that was supposed to help.
It's actually quite smart what he did in some cases, in a disgusting way. Look at Holmes-Cooney; It was the richest fight in boxing history at the time - or at least one of. Cooney got something like 10 million as the challenger! Holmes wasn't making nearly that.
What King figured out is if the pot for the 2 fighters is 20 million. He'll go to Cooney with 10 million and to Holmes with 3-4 million and keep the rest for himself. Holmes of course accepted because King was all:
"My brother, we have got to stand together against the white man and his devil" etc etc.
What I will say, is looking exclusively at the fights and shows he put on, King is undoubtedly the greatest promoter in history.
