With that said I cannot appriciate the way he would duck into the ropes to avoid his opponents rally. He did this against Ali quite a few times and it really disrupted his rhythm and imo got him out of some bad spots against an aggressive Ali who was just about to pour it on during those moments. That's why I do not buy any of the robbery claims on that fight and I feel he deserved to lose regardless because he should have been deducted several points for doing what he did.

Against Foreman he only did this once or twice so he did win that one fair and square, amazing that he survived the 7th round and was throwing and landing back hard soon after getting hurt. Amazing knockdown in the 12th to seal the win too.

Your thoughts on him as a fighter and the Ali fight, specifically the things I mentioned?
I agree with you, as that was also my take. His style annoyed me, as I feel he could have been, and should have been more aggressive, if he wanted to process to the next level.

I will even add a small note, in that when he was past his best, against an up and coming Gerry Cooney, he had gotten himself in shape an I, personally, think had he not gotten cut, he was beginning to show signs of giving the younger, cruder fighter a lot of trouble.

Young is often underrated due to his lack of power as well as the "ugliness" of his style; but he was a highly skilled boxer.

Somewhere in an alternate universe.....A place where Elroy is a well respected moderator, Humean argues intelligently, Sonny Boy has only one handle....that being Sonny Boy....and iron dan is considered a troll...In the Ali fight Jimmy Young had his hand raised instead of Ali. As was asked some time ago in this forum would that make him an atg with a decent resume....Its a rhetorical question.

How ridiculous. So Foreman was a boxing genius in his second career. He laid back and preserved energy, exactly what he had to do, and that makes him as smart as anyone who ever boxed. Really, you forking idiots?

Yeah, believe it. He was every bit as smart as Pep and Benitez. H*ll yeah! Boxing genius George.
