Foreman had about zero ring iq in his first run,,, old man george had a ring iq off the charts and on level with guys like hopkins, floyd, roy.. He knew his weakness and strengths and played towards that and was one of the smartest fighters I ever saw considering he as was an old, fat, slow man.. Smarts was his biggest assets in the ring.. So cool and relaxed even in a firefight

I agree on all your points. he also made much better use of that pole of a left jab in his second career. just imagine how devastating that jab would have been when he was younger and much quicker

Yeah if young george had the traits of old george it would be scary.. I think he would have easily outpointed ali, and would have reigned as champ til larry Holmes dethroned him in late 79 or 80-81.. If George uses his jab, keeps his distance and doesn't crowd himself and knows how to not punch himself out, I think he beats ali pretty easily, though jimmy young would always give him problems

You guys are getting redicilous. He would have never beaten Ali in 74 much less "easily". Whenever they weren't on the ropes Ali was popping Goerge with 1-2's constantly. He could have trained for any style he wanted, beating a 32 year old Ali was too much of a task for him.

George was incredibly smart during his old man run.. I don't even know how that's debatable, sure he didn't possess elite p4p skills in his 40s like guys like roy floyd, etc,,, but he sure was as smart as them in the chess match of boxing..

If George was smart he would have backed ali down with the jab, not crowded himself and took what Ali was giving defensively... If George doesn't become a sloppy puncher and over aggressive he could easily beaten that Ali.. But George fought ******... Deontay wilder fougth a smarter fight vs Stiverne than George did against Ali...
If 1970s George with his physical prime, was combined with 1990s George with his mental prime it would be an almost unbeatable machine.. Each version was the undisputed champ, combining them would be scary..

SAA you really went off the deep end as a poster lately. Those are some of the most silly comments I've seen and it feels more like you're baiting me so I'm not getting into that.

I dont see anything outrageous with what he said. I dont know if foreman would have ever beaten ali but he sure as hell would have done better if he fought as smart as he did in his second career by working behind his jab and fighting at a more measured pace

Saying old Foreman had the ring IQ of Mayweather and Hopkins, and that with a few adjustments against Ali he would not have been ko'd in 8 after being outboxed, but instead would have beaten Ali "easily" is beyond outrageous.

Also, Foreman did use the jab and was more paced against Lyle and Young. We saw that it was less effective than his aggressive style that made him champion.
